The term 'caught a bug' is in fact a relic from the past. Long before anyone ever saw a microscopic organism, they understood that certain insects could spread illness. The plague from fleas. Maleria from mosquitoes. The pain and burning caused by body lice. Catching a bug is a lot easier to say than communicable disease.
