I have a loved one with a substance abuse problem and it has taken its toll on me emotionally over the years. I was wondering if there was a support group for me so that I can talk with others that are facing the same problems. I know there are so many people out there dealing with this too, but I feel alone in the battle.

I don't know about online, but I do know about Alanon and Naranon. They are located in almost every city in the country and provide a forum for people needing help with a loved one. It has been shown that support groups are the best help for people who feel alone and want to get help. My ex-wife was an addict and after we divorced, she died 3 yrs. later of an apparent overdose. No one is immune and no one who wants help should be alone. Being shy is not a good enough reason not to seek help with a problem that can cause such devastation. Your loved one may need therapeutic jail-time in order to get past his problem, but in the meantime, you need to take care of yourself. Your loved one is addicted and nothing on earth will make him/her change until he/she wants to and is willing to do something different. Even if you can't change them you can learn to protect yourself and your own interests by going to one of these meetings. You don't have to put up with an active addict!!!

first, i hope you are doing well and you are not alone in the battle. even though it may feel that way sometimes. there is the website: http://www.soberrecovery.com/ that offers info and support groups http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/family-friends/
for friends and family members of substance abusers (based on the 12 step program aa) otherwise, maybe it is worth looking into your area rehab centers. Recently, many rehabs have included a section dedicated to the friends and family in their rehabilitation program. Even some insurances now require the section in a patient's claim to be approved. makes sense. If these centers do not offer out-patient or services for individuals like yourself, one of their therapists or else may know of a good online support group.

Yes you can call a Mental Health, and they can give you a number of places that you can go for a support group in person, now i am not sure if there is one on like but it seems like there proablely woud be, since you can find almost anything on here. So do a search and that should tell you if you have one on line, i am pretty sure you will find on though.
Good luck and i hope you get better, and not so stressed .

Search for AA meetings or Al-Anon.
