I got the kitten from the Humane Society. The vet says it is in good health, and he did not mention a respiratory infection.

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection to me. I would take him to another vet to have him looked at. He needs to be put on medication. Now was this the vet at the Humane Society or is it your local vet? Definitely get a second opinion from someone else. Hope he feels better!

Yes call the shelter you received him from. It probably is a little Upper Resp Infection. The shelter should provide you medications and/or a trip to the vet for some medications since they are suppose to adopt only health animals out. If you got the animals recently. Did it have this when you brought the kitten home or did it get it a few days after? Never the less the shelter should take responsiblitly and help you in the care of the sick kitty. Its the least they can do since you gave the baby a new home. Im sure she wasnt a cheap adoption! The vet should give you medication for runny eyes and snotty nose. If its not on medicaiton then it will only get worse not better. Snot and gunk in the eyes does not indicate allergies or reactions to medication or vaccinations so I would take her back and get her on a Ammoxicillin or Cephalaxin

This is probably an upper respiratory infection that is common with shelter animals. It can spread easily among the pets, and should be treated with antibiotics, as it will affect their eating also. Go to a vet of your choice and not the one affiliated with the Humane Society. I'm not saying they are not good vets, but I would get a second opinion>

Take him to a vet not associated with the Humane Society. Sounds like an upper respiratory infection which can be serious if not treated.

I just got a kitten a week ago. He came home looking fine but only a day later he had green stuff coming out of his eyes. I took him to the vet the next day it was opened. He was put on an ointment, but after 8 days there was no improvement. The eye infection was just a sign of his upper respitory. He is now periodically sneezing. They gave him nasal meds there, and then put him on oral anti-bodies. Only 2 days after he was looking so much better. I would probably see another vet and get him on some antibodies before it gets worse and cost you more down the road! Good luck with your kitten!

Um- Find another vet. A cat that is sneezing, sounds congested, and has runny eyes has a problem. It might be just a feline version of kennel cough, but that sounds an awful lot like the symptoms I've seen in other cats someone dumped at my parents' place before they died.

Good luck!

as every one else is saying it sounds like a upper respiratory infection and it needs to get some medicine that is very unhealthy for a kitten and if not treated can be fatal to the kitten

Go back to the humane society and they will give you appropriate meds for your kitty. Sounds like kitty has respiratory infection - very common among cats from shelters and pet stores.

Many kittens coming from shelters get a "cold". The younger they are the more dangerous they can be. My kitten who was no more then 6 weeks old when I got her and had to go on medication. The poor thing would not eat because she could not smell her food.

your cat needs some antibiotics, so go back to the vet or preferably go to a different vet. it sounds like the symptoms of feline herpes though a lot of vets don't know much about it....basically it is a chronic cold that really doesn't go away. get it checked out and get some l-lysine. you can get that at walmart in the supplement isle give 500mg daily.
