Are you kidding? If we loose farm land, we loose food. Loose enough farm land and people will starve.

I don't know what or where you are being taught but the ability to survive with out constantly importing from other countries is vital for survival as a country, otherwise we could easily be taken over just cut off our food supply.
And as for the reasons for diminishing farmland... Da#n subdivisions going up everywhere and spreading like the flu.
