"Rep" is a American "street" slang abbreviation for reputation. It is usually used in the context of gang members who desire to "get a rep" i.e. reputation for being tough; or in the context of "playa" another American "street" slang abbreviation for player i.e. a reputation for playing the field and/or playing games with numerous women's affections for sexual favors.

Rep is short for reputation, usually a bad reputation.
Depending on how it's used, it may refer to a sexual reputation; for example; "If you date guys like him, you'll get a rep" (for being a sexually promiscuous person, a slut).
It can also refer to a person's dishonesty, for example, "A company that follows poor business practices will get a rep" (for being unscrupulous or dishonest).

It means to acquire a reputation. It can be bad if it's a bad reputation but it can also be a great thing if your reputation is for honesty and compassion.
