Yes, not the near future, but it is in the future. Here's a possibility: Europe continues to defund and disband its militaries, and Russia's becomes a mercenary force like the French Foreign Legion. China eventually crosses the line and starts a war with the US, over Taiwan, North Korea, or Iran, and the combat devolves into a low-yield tactical nuclear conflict. The US emerges victorious and is left as the only major military left in the world. Then aliens attack and the US has to save the world's butt as all critics become sudden cheerleaders begging for America's help. No other countries want to restart their own defense industries, so they just contract the US for defense and world police.
Okay, so it's not too realistic, but maybe it could happen... in a movie...

Isn't that what the UN thinks they already have? But, no...not while nationalism exists.
A quick note to those who suggest that if there was a single world army there would be no one to fight. Yes, there are always going to be rebels, insurgents, drug lords, "freedom fighter" and such to contend with even w/o individual standing armies.
And there would be arms dealers to supply them...until they were permanently putout of business.

With all the various organizations and Unions that seem to be forming all around the globe. A common world defense force may not be so far fetched , Though I think it may be over 100 years away.

this is highly unlikely if only for the sole reason that there would be no need for a substantial armed force because if there were only one army in the world there woulld be no one left to fight. Unless u believe in malicious aliens

Not bloody likely! You cannot eliminate national and ethnic pride, and the major world powers would simply not stand for it.
