i personally try not think of it when im here, the unit morale ebbs and flows it depends on the time of year what your doing and so on. on my first deployment we walked for 8 hours a day on patrols in tempatrues that barley went below 100 (it peeked at 153). i was to tired to even think straight. though you notice things the countryside smells like an open sewer, they have no trash pickup so the entire area is littered with things best left undescribed. there is very little or no green. in the summer the sun is out so long with no cover that everything gets blinded out and looks super white.

the people smell awful most of the time because of no running water (im sure we did to). though i think there two faced one mintue its "hello mister" the next minute your getting blown up/shot at by these "friendly" people. ive been shot at by the IA as much as i have by the insurgents.

i dont like iraq one bit, but ill come over here to keep radical muslim jihadists out of america

Yes. Having served over 25 years ago I went over as a DoD contractor working with the troops for 18 months.

Definitely miss seeing trees, green grass, rivers and lakes.

I had the opportunity to visit a few of Saddams palaces...great designs but built like junk.

I found that the morale of 99% of the troop I worked with was very high. And no, there weren't always NCOs or officers around...especially when I traveled with the troops in their convoys.

Yes, recently returned from that craphole. It is so damn hot, all the time, and even when it rains, it only lasts for a short time, and than it gets humid on top of 120 degree heat. Baghdad and its surrounding areas never seem to have been anything to look at, i know there has been years of wars, but this place is just awful. Maybe 6000 years or so ago it was nice, but you can have it now.
