I brought my teenage daughter to the doctor because she had a painful swollen gland on one side of her neck and a sore throat. I just found a note she wrote to a friend that said two days before the onset of the symptoms she had snuck out in the middle of the night and was 'kickin it' with him. I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor. The internet research I've done shows confilciting info.

Indeed, Gonorrhea can cause a sore throat and lymphadenophy if acquired orally, There are other causes of sore throat that are much more common however, such as strept throat and mononucleosis and viral pharyngitis. Gonorrhea is not a frequent cause of pharyngitis and in medicine, the rule is that common things happen commonly and uncommon things happen uncommonly. Your daughter needs to have a doctor perform a history and physical exam, a rapid strept test, and a throat culture if gonorrhea is suspected, as it is a reportable disease.
