the other day, my boyfriend and i were out w/ one of his friends. we were out shopping, when his friend *mark stole an ipod. needless to say, he got caught and was arrested. the security guy caught him on camera and confronted him. now the weird thing is my boyfriend was with *mark when he stole the ipod, so he would have been seen on camera as well. now nothing happened to my boyfriend. now a couple days later the police came to my boyfriends house when he was not there and told his brother that he needed my boyfriend to come in and get fingerprints and pictures for a fight that happened a couple a years ago that involved him. now the funny thing is that he was never arrested for that incident, so why would they need fingerprints of his. they told him they needed them so they could close out the case. could the cop be lying about why he has to come in? could it be for what happened with the ipod?

he already went to court for the fight but it had to be dropped because it happened when he was seventeen. hes now 20. he was trying to block the view of people when his friend was trying to get the ipod. but wouldnt they have went to look for him the night it happened, not five days later? the cops know my boyfriend, he is well known to them...

What a police officer claims he "needs" and what your friend is obligated to do are two different things. My suggestion would be that he call and ask whether he is being requested to go to the police station or is being ordered to do so. He should ask whether the police will arrest him if he does not go. If they say they will, he should ask under what authority. He should make it clear that he is NOT voluntarily going to the police station, but only under the compulsion of the police.

I think it is highly unlikely that there is any legal basis for compelling him to go to the police station based upon an arrest which occurred three years ago and while he was a juvenile. I thus strongly suspect that the police have an ulterior motive. If this is a "request," I would politely decline.

I'm not a police office, but I am the daughter of one.

It is obvious that they have an open file on your boyfriend. The same thing happened to my son, who only KNEW someone who was involved in a "MySpace" incident six months prior. The cops had an entire file on my son, knew where he lived and had printouts of his entire MySpace page...every blog and picture.

They need his fingerprints because the "fight" case is still open and they obviously got a lead to him because of his association with the "IPod" case. Trust me...detectives are NOT stupid and they do not need to lie. As it is, they already know more than they're letting on. Tell your boyfriend to cooperate.

From what you state in your question it sounds like your boyfriend was also involved in the shoplifting. If he is acting as a look out or trying to block the view so no one can see, then he is part of the crime. Only thing I do not understand is why he was not arrested at the same time. If they made a mistake then I guess they are trying to get him to come to the station and confront him as to his part of what took place.

well first of all your boyfriend is a loser you shoudl find soemoen else, but aside from that, the police can lie to a person, and they probably do not need anythign from him, in reference to the old fight charge. Now as for the ipod incident you do nto have to take the merchandise to be found guilty for shoplifting, he shielded, and helped conceal the crime therefore he is guilty. the reason the security gaurd did not arrest him is probably was not worth it for him, but the cops saw the evidence and the guy "mark " probably told them your boyfriend (who is still a loser and his friend is a rat), was involved

My opinon is that your boyfriend cannot be charged for the ipod, but maybe when ever the video was seen, maybe he was recognized for another crime and or the fight. "If" they plan on charging him with anything to do with the ipod like an assessory, they have to have proof. If maybe the video shows that your boyfriend was acting as a lookout, or blocking the view of the stealing of the ipod from public view or view of the employees,, then maybe he can be charged.?????
