I'm 12, my mom makes me wear an apron at home to help around the house and when she wants even if I'm not doing chores. She says it's sweet and feminine and I look cute. One of my aprons is like the one the girl is wearing at http://www.americanhostess.com/victorianrufflebluecheckzoom.jpg I have others, even frillier. They are cute, but I don't like, especially in front of friends, I get a bit embarrassed. But she says I have to, no reason to get embarrassed, and doesn't back off. She' a wonderful mom, treats me with much love, but makes me wear aprons. Is she right? Should I rebel? If I rebel, should I be punished? Once I tried to rebel, she just said OH Hun, just wear your aprons for me, don't make me sad and gave me a hug. I felt guity, didn't rebel and even promised I won't rebel.

I don't see a problem with you or any other girl/woman wearing an apron when doing chores or cooking. I wear one all the time. An apron is just another item of clothing, as you would wear a raincoat to keep from getting wet, in the same way you wear an apron from getting your clothes soiled. I am sure you have dresses with frills on them (most girls do) so why would you not have frills on some of your aprons. I realize you are only 12 now but in a few years when boys are looking for a future partner there is nothing that spells out "wife material" better than a young lady in the kitchen, aproned whipping up a batch of pancakes.
Trust me, most men may want to "hang out" with the "dancing queen" but they want to marry the "domestic diva".

That is a little bit weird... but really it's not that big a deal. She probably doesn't want you to ruin the clothes you're wearing (which she probably paid for, right?) You should try to talk to her about it, tell her that it embarasses you when she makes you wear it in front of your friends (maybe tell a little white lie that they tease you about it or something... it's up to you).
If you do rebel, I don't think she has any good reason to punish you, but that doesn't mean she won't. It might be best to just wear the stupid apron while you're doing chores (I don't see why you should have to wear it when you're NOT doing chores, that's ridiculous, it's like you're Mummy's little dolly that she dresses up for fun) and avoid arguments. Anyway, I hope you solve your problem without having to fight with her. Good luck : )

It is just an apron so just wear it. As long as you are wearing clothes under the apron too. Maybe she is trying to prevent your clothes from getting stains on them while you are cleaning. It is a good idea to protect your clothes. When you are older and you move out you can stop wearing them.

It's an apron. Ask yourself "In ten years, will it really matter if I wore the apron?" Why make a big deal out of something so small? And if your friends are over, make them wear frilly aprons, too. :P

This is weird. It makes her happy, but tell her not in front of your friends. Enlist your dad to help you. Tell Mom that you're not rebelling just that it is so 50ish and you are not there. If this is the biggest riff between you and your mom, you're blessed. Good luck.

I agree with G G. You mother is setting you up with all the good qualities that a real man looks for in a wife. In the long run you will thank her for it.
