I'm writing a novel and in part of it, someone dies of a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. Would it be possible for someone with this kind of tumor, with only a few days to live, to have a conversation or even be aware of their surroundings? I wrote a part where they're talking to one of the other characters, but then it occured to me that it might not be realistic.

It's possible but unlikely. The last few days of someone dying of cancer usually will involve little consciousness and alot of sleeping. In the case of brain tumors, it's even less likely to be fully coherent. Brain tumors often effect the patients memory and logic. In addition, the (strong) pain medication will usually effect the patient's mental state.

This kind of tumor is actually a whole bunch of tumor types that occur in different places in the brain. They grow like the roots of plants instead of forming round masses. It's entirely possible that the tumor could develop for months in a part of the brain that does not affect speech or coordination, then enter another portion of the brain that causes rapid death.

The character could start showing some mysterious pattern of random memory losses or headaches leading up to their untimely demise. The memory loss thing could open up all sorts of possibilities in a story.

Gliomas are primary tumors that originate in brain parenchyma. Symptoms and diagnosis are similar to those of other brain tumors. Treatment involves surgical excision, radiation therapy, and, for some tumors, chemotherapy. Excision rarely cures.
Please see the web pages for mre details on Glioblastoma multiforme.

That became over two decades in the past and she or he continues to be alive. She had surgical operation and then different treatment - likely radiotherapy, yet i do no longer understand for confident. For a even as after she had some issues like reminiscence and speech yet she made an total restoration. the concern is with such issues as that, and maximum cancers, human beings instantly away concern the worst. i understand this because my mom has in basic terms been clinically determined with maximum cancers and that i could not help yet imagine the worst (no longer least because I lost my major different very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to the same situation). That your situation is deemed treatable is an truly helpful signal - they in common words manage those circumstances with the purpose of a remedy. in the experience that they believed your situation became terminal they could inform you and by no ability grant treatment. in words of work colleagues i might want to be vulnerable to inform your prompt manager yet no longer others, till you want to. in case you do you may want to say that you do not believe that is existence threatening yet will take a mess of medical intervention and a protracted restoration era. I desire you each of the very perfect.

Try to talk to your doctor about it. The doctors have the best answers to your questions. I may not have any good answers since I am not in the medical field. Try ask any doctors or anyone in the medical field upon this question. Good luck on your novel.
