A diet that contains all the elements of the food pyramid is fine for high blood pressure. You should avoid foods high in sodium (salt), and drink enough fluids to keep you hydrated without over doing it. You should also watch your weight. Being overweight puts additional stress on your vasculature. Talk with your doctor. You'll be given a diet plan based on your physical condition.
What you need to do most of all, is to remember to take your medications as prescribed. You should also invest in a decent sygmomanometer, so you can check your BP at home. Keep a record and bring it with you when you see your doctor. Readings at home are generally more accurate then those taken at the doctor's office when you may be nervous or uncomfortable. Don't be surprised if your doctor changes what medications or doses you'll take. BP meds are often changed based on factors like trends in BP readings, physical condition, age, and how well you've responded to past Rx therapy.

Some fruits and veggies that control and lower blood pressure include apricots, cantaloupe, mushrooms, chestnuts and figs. You could speak to a nutritionist about how to integrate these into your diet in beneficial amounts.

seek the advice of a professional nutritionist and dietician. if you go to www.myhealthabcmall.com they have dietary products in there that combine with looking after your heart and circulatory system. there is a link to the owner who is a coach and he will get you on the right path and get you to lose weight safely and quickly. He did a great job on both my parents.
