Action is more important than belief in Judaism, so you will find Jews have many differing beliefs. Many Jews believe the messiah to be a metaphor for "peace on earth" which is the goal all Jews are working toward. You can find more here:

The Temple in Jerusalem will be built when the Messiah arrives. He will make the construction of the third Temple possible.

There is already a growing movement to revive the Sanhedrin. This must be accomplished and their authority acknowledged by at least the majority of religious Jews on the planet.
Second, the Dome of the Rock must be destroyed and muslims pushed off the mountain and the land reclaimed by Israel.
Third, the temple gets built.
That second one's going to be the hard one, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. I may not be a Jew, I may not be religious at all, but I would really like to see Yisrael restored to its Temple heritage.
