Because of the economy...noone will sit there and complain about first of all..pollution they can't see...and if coal and steel which will be used to make objects to our convinence ..is made...of course noone will say anything..
Noone cares...we only worry about the present case...if that be a ciggarette...then it is. Because it's affecting the person directly or maybe there is a personal emotional conflict with people hurting themselves and then "trying" to hurt others.
And the government chooses not to do anything about it...because they are greedy and they could careless about what happens to this world....we have the technology to have a cleaner earth and choose not to because of the economy...
I'm sure you'll be thrilled to hear this one... Did you know that we fabricate and distribute ciggarettes with one company? And that ..that same company creates the advertisements for TRUTH..against smoking? Ironic but true...and that's how filthy our government can get...selling harmful subtances to our body and then trying to look clean about it.

Smoking has no benefits at all. When you smoke you will get nothing but sickness. Automotive factories make polutions, but the cars will make the smokers able to reach the doctor when their lung is in emergency. Got the point?

It's easier to complain about that and pass legislation especially when industry and the auto people have such an army of people lobbying congress. Money talks.

Because cigarettes are obvious, and clearly non-essential. Industrial emissions are closely tied to the engine of the economy, and they tend to be further away so people don't think of them as much.
Automotive emissions are a tremendous source of pollution. Why didn't you ask about them?
