My 18 mo. old poops every time she's in the tub. I bathe her in the morning, after breakfast, because baths tend to wake her up instead of make her sleepy even with using lavendar calming bath wash. She can have a good BM before she goes into the tub and she still poops in there. Thankfully, it's her infant tub so clean up isn't too bad. It's just really annoying as I usually have to give her two baths or bathe her quickly to avoid this. She, too, gets agitated since she wants to play in there after she's all washed up. Any suggestions??

It's the warm water... Maybe try a slightly cooler temperature. My daughter has problems with really bad constipation, what helps more than anything? Putting her in a warm/hot bath... It ease the cramping....

That's the first thing that came to mind, hope it helps

I sympathise, my daughter did the same thing for a while. It's because they relax more in the bath, so all the rectal muscles relax, and out it pops. The only thing I found worked was to wait until she had a good BM, then to make sure that she was relaxed and warm before her bath. I did this by avoiding rowdy play after changing her, then wrapping her in a warm towel and massaging her belly with a little warmed baby oil as a pre-bath routine.

Luckily she did the night time bath, I'm not sure how you could adapt this to a daytime bath. The good news is that it does stop eventually, as they get more control.

I had the same problem with my son. He would poop in our whirlpool bath. Eventually I resorted to buying a fish net to get the poop out of the tub. I know it's gross (kind of funny too, though). I had to keep an eye on how he was acting. If he stood-up and looked like he was about to go, I would grab him and put him on the potty. Eventually he grew out of this habit. I also made a rule that he was not allowed to take a bath until he had gone poop for the day.

My daughter did this too when she was a baby. Every single time I bathed her. They do grow out of it, be patient. It's the warm water that does it.

warm water relaxes the bowels so maybe that's the problem. my daughter used to do this every time she got in the tub so i stopped running her water so warm.

it's the warm water, try a slightly cooler temerature, but no cooler than 98 degrees, you don't want her to be chilled.
