I was a junior in the Army National Guard and was in school when i got called up for Deployment. I went did my thing and came back. They won't stop the war just because your in school , When you sign that contract and take that Oath, you do as they say. I doubt they'll make an exception just because you have a paper that's due.

If you join, you can be depolyed. But, it is a little different. For example. If you are in school, there is a day thatif you drop a class after this day, you cannot get your money back. Even if it is a week before the semester is over, you will receive a full refund. Also, in Texas, if you reach 170 attempted hour without a degree, you start paying out of state tuition. If you drop a class during the semester, those hours still count towards that 170 limit even though they don't count when factoring you GPA and stuff like that. In your case, those hours would be removed. Basically, it would be like you weren't even there that semester.
Now, if you are a week away from the semester ending, units will likely allow you to finish, if they can. If not, you go when you are called.
Also, some institutions make you re-apply if you are gone for a certain length of time. In your case, you would have to be allowed back into the university without re-applying no matter how long you were. All degree plans and reuirements that were in effect for your degree when you were called would remain the same as well. Basically. If you were not required to take class A for your major when you left. But, you came back three years later and it was now required. You degree plan would follow the requirements for the time in which you left.
The same goes for employment. If you are called away, you employer must have a position for you when you return. Technically, if you leave on good terms with say Walmart, enlist at the age of 19, do 25 years, you can go back to that Walmart at 44 and they have to let you continue to work there. Most do not, as they don't want the jobs they had when they went in.
