My first born was very difficult to potty train. I stopped pushing and started training again after his third birthday. Here's a link to a really useful site that has a potty training quiz to see if he's ready. Best of luck!

Just wait on potty training if you can. Sounds like he's not ready. Our pediatrician suggested letting our son poop in a diaper while sitting on the potty. She said that a lot of kids don't think they can poop while sitting down. Also, she said some people cut a hole in the diaper and have the kid sit on the potty to poop so that they can see where the will go when they use the potty. I am going through potty training with my son right now (he turned 3 in october). I realized that I was pushing it with him and he was not ready. Now that he's ready it's only taken about 2 weeks. He told ME the other day (while I was getting him ready for bed and I wanted to put a Pull-Up on him) "No Mommy, I don't want to wear diapers anymore" and he has slept in underwear each night and had no bed wetting. We have been using a jellybean system (1 for pee, 5 for poop) and letting him open one of his Christmas gift each time he poops. (he unwrapped them all on Christmas, but we have been letting him take them out to play with them as he poops)

Hope some or any of this helps.
