Answer with a joke, or say something sarcastic, but don't deny it (unless you really are just under the weather). Let them know that, yeah you're shy, but you're cool with yourself and if they want to get to know you they'll find you've got a personality to boot.

Can I assume that "shy" is a bad thing? Seems to me it's just a personality type, but I've never seen any good reactions to it.

If you are shy, respond by saying, yes, a little..then giggle. If your NOT say, no, Im not shy at all, I just dont like you and you creep me out so please quit trying to talk to me.
