You are going to have to go to a doctor. Sometimes your family doctor can prescribe something for anxiety, but if it is bad enough, you may want to skip the middle man and head straight to the psychiatrist instead. That way they can start you out on something and see how well it works for you. Then, if what they start you on doesn't work out well for you, they can adjust your dosage or change meds. Plus, they can often times see you more frequently, and have bloodwork done more quickly than your family doctor to see how the meds are effecting you. And there is always the added benefit of being able to call them and tell them of any side effects that you are having that are scaring you or making you feel extremely uncomfortable and them giving you an immediate response for what to do. Good luck.

Any medical doctor can prescribe them, but they would likley refer you to a psychiatrist for a prescription unless they know you well.
By the way, prescription drugs don't really help anxiety, they are just tranquilizers and will do little but make you addicted and sleepy. Try a behavior modification program like the one put out by the Midwest Center For Anxiety And Depression.

You can get loaded up with drugs within about 6 minutes- it's very easy.
Go to a doctor and mention "anxiety" ("I feel so anxious all the time" is about all you'll need to say). Within 2 minutes he'll diagnose you with "anxiety disorder" or better yet, a "chemical imbalance" and will give you a prescription for his drug of choice. (His favorite drug will be the one with the best incentive program-- if he writes more prescriptions for, say, Wellbutrin he gets "invited" to that "medical conference" in Tahiti, all expenses paid!)
He doesn't care what's causing the problem- his goal will be to get you on drugs as quickly as possible!

i have anxiety about flying so i went to my doctor and told them that i need something that will calm my anxiety. She prescribed me a low dose of xanax that i take before i get on the plane... it really helps and they give me a refil when i want it. I don't abuse the pills so, it's not uncomfortable asking for them. I've been doing this for about 4 years now.

They would be prescribed by your doctor, or he would refer you to a shrink.
If you don't have a family doctor, and feel you are in trouble...try going to the mental health unit of your local hospital.
good luck

You get a prescription from your family doctor or a psychiatrist after they have evaluated the situation.

See a psychiatrist. That is the only way to get them legally.
