Hello Deacon Knight,
I like your questions. This reminds me of a sermon I once heard. A minister was pointing out how it is a sin for men to have long hair. He had the congregation thumbing through their bibles for an hour, looking up this scripture and that scripture. And near the end of his very enlightening speech, he said something like this, "You know, there are a lot of ministers who tell their congregations what they want to hear. Those people take a little bit of scripture here and a little there, and they can prove anything they want. That doesn't happen at MY church. I'm not going to lead you wrong like they do. You can see from all the scriptures we read today that what I am saying is right. Don't be fooled by all those guys who take a lot of scriptures out of context. You should believe the word of god, and that's what I've given you today."
What this probably means is that the bible is less understandable than Christians think and that they should be a bit less sure of their interpretations.
And blah blah blah.

Are you saying only Christians take scripture out of context? I think people in all groups are guilty of that! Additionally, are you saying you expect Christians to be perfect? I would hope not. Christianity is for the sinner, not he who is perfect (because we have free will we all make mistakes), and therefore of course there would continue to be some of those ungodly traits existent in Christians. As to other things in the Bible, like the mixed fibers thing and shellfish, I believe that was part of the Moseaic Law, which was done away with by Christ. I don't think most people throw stones, at least no more than those throwing stones at Christians (which is wrong either way), and we are all trying to do what we think is right. We should all respect each other regardless of our beliefs.

Show me where I ever took an answer to a question out of context, it sounds like to me you are upset, maybe it is conviction, don't put your convictions or non-convictions on us, So now if you can show me where I took anything out of context, then we can talk, & by the way, I know exactly what the bible says about those things you mentioned. If you think I am doing those things, that is your right, But also I have my right to say, these things you mentioned does not even bother my life, These is things God took away from me years ago, Since I have been serving God for 37 yrs. So Friend throw all the stones you want to at me, & see if it breaks my house, I can come back here in 5 years, & still say the samething. Oh I forgot, Since you think I do these things & you don't even know me, the only stones I have to throw is the ones you have thrown at me.

I completely agree with you, and I am a Christian. But supposedly there is 2 verses in the New Testament that say homosexuality is a sin. Most Christians just go with the American wave of Christianity. They don't think for themselves about what they believe. I personally think Paul the Apostle was nuts.

I am a Christian sinner and no, I have not completely given up all those things, nor do I believe I have to. I would not even make the pretense of claiming to be sinless as that is something impossible for a human to acheive.
I have as much right to express my thoughts and opinions here as you do. God will judge my sins son, not someone from Yahoo Answers. cal

Quoting the scriptures and trying to help somebody is different from throwing stones at them. If a gay asks is it wrong or a thief asks is it wrong should someone say 'no' go ahead you're OK? Yes we all sin but should be also working out our salvation.

We're all equally permitted to interpret the Bible in every twisted way we want.

Because!
I know, that's the answer you give a five-year-old, but that's the level of spiritual maturity that Christianity encourages in its blind followers, so...
Because!
