Oh and please don't say "You can do yoga if you're a Christian", because I know the bible through and through and I know what it says so no one can persuade me that it's ok.

man no wonder so many ppl drift away from Christianity or Catholisism, with some ppl and the way they think, at least I'm glad i had smart ppl to guide me on my religion.

First of, practicing Yoga has nothing to do with religion, is just the same as takin a massage.

Second, as a true Catholic that knows about my religion, based on Christianity, nothing will happen and it is not prohibited.

Please don't be absurd and go relax your mind, actually, a priest will engourage it because it will relax your mind and help you be closer to your soul...

You could always buy a bunch of workout videos and do the first 5 minutes of each one...the beginning of all work out videos are heavy into stretching. Pilates is good too.

Or maybe if you did yoga with some music or with the volume turned down so you wouldn't be "emptying your mind" like you're so opposed to. If you just did the poses, without the new age stuff, would that work?

I know you said no Yoga....but if you like it and want to do it, you can find classes that are just about the poses and the stretching and not the soul searching mumbo jumbo! Thats what I do!!! But yeah..other than that I guess give pilates a try....

Okay... although Yoga traditionally started as a meditation technique amoung Hindus, it has since evolved into nothing more than a fitness technique used to develop flexibility, strength and endurance and also to help reduce stress. The stress reduction comes through meditation. Now there is nothing in Scripture that says meditation or excersize is evil or ungodly. As a matter of fact, meditation is mentioned quite often in the Bible... Old and New Testiments! Christ would meditate during prayer and encouraged his disciples to do likewise. It's also mentioned all over the Psalms. Meditation is merely emptying one's mind of any thoughts and resting your brain for a while. You're not meditating on Vishnu or any other gods or spirits... you're simply ridding your brain of any thought to put it into "sleep mode" if you will. And besides, there is no rule that says when you meditate you can't do so on Christ!

Many Christians practice Yoga. It is one of the most common means of physical fitness today. Professional athletes and dancers practice Yoga for the increased stamina and flexibility... how else would Derek Jeter make some of those catches if he didn't work on increasing his flexibilty. However, I'm pretty sure Derek Jeter does not consider himself to be a Hindu.

I think the barrier you face regarding Yoga is one of "legalism." Legalism really destroys your personal relationship with Christ because you spend so much time worrying about how your fellow church-goers and Christian friends will accept your personal choices... choices I might add that are in no way even mentioned in Scripture. It's like wanting to see a movie but hesitating because it has an "R" rating and you think it might be a conflict to your Christian faith. These are personal choices... and I think if your faith is strong and your relationship with Christ is strong, these personal choices in no way jeapordize your walk with Him.

Think about it, pray about it, but most importantly re-check your Bible. Because although the Bible mentions that you should not worship other gods, practicing Yoga in no way makes you a Hindu or takes away from your Christian beliefs. It's merely your choice of exercise and with the exception of God himself, you really shouldn't worry about what any other person thinks about your personal choices.

What do you think prayer is? You are supposed to clear your mind and focus just on that. Prayer is a form of meditation. To empty your mind is to truly focus on what you are doing. Have you been doing this wrong the whole time?
