My pit pup was attacked by an off leash Rotweiler who ran up to her like he was greeting her and then attacked. It was unprovoked and caused that dog to be skittish about any other dogs greeting her in the normal doggie way of approach and sniff..
My Golden Retriever mix was attacked, when she was two mos old, by a Jack Russel Terrier mix when the owner opened the door to his apt and let his dog out, again, off leash. Absolutely unprovoked, both incidences.
Both were attacks that were the result of the dogs being off leash where they should have been on leash and both dogs were aggressive. Both had irresponsible owners.

I have been bitten by 3 different Pit Bulls. All three times it was unprovoked. Once in my Groom Shop, once at my sisters, and once right in front of my home out on the street.

I also have been bitten more times than I can count or remember by dogs in my grooming shop. I specialized in grooming dogs with behavioral problems and I could handle some of the little beasts that other groomers would not touch. Some didn't like their feet messed with and would bite, some would not let me empty anal glands and they would bite, some didn't like their faces shaved and would bite.

I took a dog training course and as an agitator I had many vicious dogs on my arms and body. Of course I was suited up for the training but the power behind a large dogs jaws are so strong the bite felt like I didn't have any padding.

I just want to add one more thought. and that is that most of the dog bites and attacks are from dogs that are not trained and the owner has no idea as to how to handle an aggressive dog. Just plain ignorance on their part.

yes i have been bitten by a chow. One of the most horrible bites I have ever had . Have been bitten by a horse too . I got bitten by my friends chow and she had the nerve to ask me what i did to her dog ? I did nothing to her dog she should not have had that dog around other people cause I found out later he had bitten several other people in the past . The horse was a different story he had been abused and mistreat by someone who had the same hair color as I do . I never filed any kind of report on either of the two animals . Since the owners were my friends . I am no longer friends with the girl who owned the chow cause she insisted that I must have provoked him in some way . The dog is a monster. good luck and i hope i helped.

No. I grew up with dogs, going to dog shows my whole life. If people would learn dogs body language there wouldn't be this problem. I can read ANY dog just like an open book and tell exactly what they are thinking and going to do. Having this knowledge you will be able to diffuse any situation before it happens. And you will know how to avoid a potential confrontation. If you want to know what I know you can check Amazon for a video called: Calming Signals: What your dog tells you. It's done by a foreign lady that is very hard to understand but it's worth it's weight in gold. It can teach you pretty much everything I've learned over my life spent with dogs.
Edit: Looking back I suppose I have been bitten several times, every time was my own fault. 3-4 times by a fear biting Chi and once or twice more on other miscellaneous times.

My daughter was bitten by a Pit Bull. She was at the corner and the dog got out of it's yard and ran at her. When the dog got close it jumped at her, my daughter put her arm in front of her face and the dog bit her elbow. I don't blame the dog, I blame the owners. They had the dog fenced out side and they spent very little time with the dog. The dog was not socialized and saw anyone near the house as a threat. I understand people wanting protection, but people need to always have control of their animals. An unpredictable animal is really no protection at all. An untrained animal will not know how to distinguish between a friend or a threat. By the way this is not an anti-pit thing either, we have a pit and she is the sweetest thing. She is well cared for and loved and socialized. I trust her in public and with strangers.

Well working in a vet clinic I have been bitten. I got seriously attacked by an evil cat. It was so bad they sent me to the ER cuz my arms were tore up from the elbow down. My husband has been bitten by a Doberman that was a family friends dog. He was little and they told him to take away the dogs food so he did and ended up in the hopsital getting his head stapled back together. My German shepherd has been attacked by my moms shepherd mix. They are both dominate females and were trying to establish dominance. They both have been pretty scratched up from tha but lucklily nothing major. (now they are separated when together) Well thats a brief overview of some of the bites in our family.

Also just because you know how a dog is going to react doesnt mean you always get out of the way in time. I have seen all different types of dogs react differently and some times they give no warning whatsoever before they bite. Trust me!!!

Yes I have been bitten by a dog, actually a couple times. The first time I was really young and don't remember the details. I think my mom said that I was trying to ride the dog, hospital trip for that one. The second was from a doberman that belonged to my mom's boyfriend. I was about 5 and I was hugging on the dog and he attacked me. Chomped on my face. I still have the scar on the back of my eye, another hospital trip. The third was from a little dog. I was soliciting the newspaper and as I was talking the dog chomped on my knee. A few stitches and a tetanus shot for that one. But amazingly enough I still love dogs!!!

As a kid, dozens of times by my moms poodle. My worst bite as a kid was by an Akita,he was apparently not a Lakers fan(The bouncing of the basketball annoyed him.Later by a Dobie while bicycling and then a German Shepard on my little dirt bike.My first Pit was attacked by a pair of Shepards who appeared out of nowhere, the two of us fought them off w/o too much damage to us. My second Pit was jumped by a White Shepard that broke through a screen door that dog not only bit my dog, but also me and his owner every body ended up getting stitches in that one. More recently my little female Pit was bitten pretty badly on the leg by a Spaniel that bolted out a neighbors door, the bite hit a tendon and left her limping for several days. The most recent attack on Holli was by a Retriever and a Black Lab that jumped my little Pit in the park.Their owner had lost hold of their leashes.Holli got a hold of the Lab and I thumped the Retriever until he took off. Notice me and my Pits have been the victims of unprovoked attacks not the perpetrators.

My 4 year old son was bitten by our (rescue) dog unprovoked. We were not told this dog was a fear biter. My son and I were playing a game on the couch while the dog was sleeping at my feet. My son went to get off the couch, slipped and fell about a foot away from the dogs face. The dog woke with a fright and peeled half of his face off. That fast! We had to get a plastic surgon to put his face together. He had bit clean through his top lip just above the pink of the upper lip so when he opened his mouth to scream his top lip humg down and almost touched his bottom lip. It had ripped through (part of) his ear. He had circle holes up his face and back into his hairline. It almost got his eye, they did not stitch his eyelid as it did not matter if he scarred there. He had severe bone brusing, everything on his left side (of his face) swelled up. It broke his nose toward the top. Only one scar is visiable now (he is now 11) it was the one around his lip. We could notkeep the swelling down and everytime he tried to smile his stitches would rip and bleed a little. That was the last time we rescued a dog. It was a doberman mix

I was bitten when I was 10 or so by a pit mix. It was a neighbor's across the street and it broke it's chain running after me on my bike. It bit my foot and in the process tore my chain off the bike. I guess he didn't like the bike, otherwise he was always friendly towards me, other than stealing my sandbox toys. I also was bitten by my family's toy poodle, she was old, I was too young, not her fault. My dog (a doberman) has been bitten a few times, a particular shepard that frequents our dog park is nasty to all the dogs and has nipped her several times. Also a boxer that continually tries to hump her has bitten her/attacked her trying to mount her.
