Because while it is possible to give birth even if you didn't do the deed, nowadays, the technology wasn't around back than, and because it's what the Bible says and I believe nothing from that book.

1) Because Biblical mythology is superficially realistic. There is a big difference between saying that a virgin conceived and saying that a woman gave birth out of her ear. 2) Religious faith is always a subjective choice, by definition. That's like saying, "If you believe that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree, then why don't you believe that the earth is flat?" Not exactly equivalent, is it?

Where there is no evidence, there is no crime. Why should any sane, intelligent person accept something on blind faith for which there is no credible documentation or evidence? Blind faith only leads to long lines for kool-aid in Jonestown.
