MtnMan: Yes, some Amish do use excommunication. Try Googling "amish excommunication" instead of making bald assertions with no backup.

Sorry everyone, just another of Steve's pathetic glitches. It is hard to know how these things happen to him.

Input: Steve, the Amish do not use a process of excommunication. Stop. Process.

Take it easy. He is obviously a failed prototype of some sort. but at least he got the part right where he claims to have no rational thought. He's kinda like a little puppy, he gets all excited an pees all over the floor, he can't help it.

We still love ya Steve.

I've been around the Amish community quite a bit and, were I Amish, I would give no cause to be shunned. They don't "excommunicate" anyone. I have tremendous respect for their way of life and have found them to be deeply happy.

People choose to be Amish.
They take the Bible literally when it says to be separated from the world.
Maybe more of us should do that.

If you leave the Amish community, you just become an outsider.
I don't think many Amish would consider leaving the community.

Amish get along well with Amish.
Better than Christians and Christians.

My Amish mother-in-law (I'm dead serious) has asked me and her son to come back Amish. I don't think she really knows what she is asking of me though...don't think I would last long at all!
They wouldn't want to hear what I would have to say if I had to live that kind of religious lifestyle. As long as I don't have to be part of it I won't look or think badly of those who choose being Amish either.
I'm happy having a relationship with the family from a distance of 700+miles...

How could you be excommunicated if you were never a Catholic? Do the Amish practice excommunication?

I imagine a requirement of being Amish is theism, and frankly, since I am unable to muster up that sort of insecurity and illogical thought, I suppose I would be tossed out immediately.

In under 4 minutes. I'm going outside for a cigarette right now, that'll do it.
