In my SOC class we are having a guest speaker. He is a Mexican immigrant. The syllabus does not specify legal or illegal.

We are supposed to have a list of questions for him as this is going to be an open forum.

While I do have a list of questions, I was wanting some additional input as I don't want to overlook anything.

Thanks so much :)

Are you going to ask if he is legally here?

Are you going to ask what his opinion is about illegal immigration?

I'd be interested in the answers, but I understand the questions might be difficult in the classroom setting.

Ask him if he can answer why illegal immigrants from Mexico don't go home to Mexico to protest and demand their rights. They obviously love the country because they fly the Mexican flag here in the United States, send their earnings back to Mexico and speak only Spanish. Ask him if Mexicans are taught about the pride one should have and why they should not take free food, medical, education, etc. from others when they are able bodied and must earn their own way in this world.

Ask him why he thinks the American public is so focused on the topic of immigrants and are blind to the fact that corporations (and the federal govt) are taking advantage of this issue to lowball the wages of skilled and unskilled blue collar workers.

do you like refrieid beans ? do you prefer jalepeno over serrano peppers? did you pay a coyete to bring you here? just kidding, you should probably ask him how he likes life in america and how it compares to life where hes from. ask what the compelling reason was for him to come here was, ask is he happy and the question you should most need the answere to is he proud to be an american.
