It happens; or it does not happen. And certainly it does not happen if we try to force it upon ourselves, just as it shall not happen so long as we think, in our self-complacency, that we have no need of it. Grace strikes us when we are in great pain and restlessness. It strikes us when we walk through the dark valley of a meaningless and empty life. It strikes us when we feel that our separation is deeper than usual, because we have violated another life, a life which we loved, or from which we were estranged. It strikes us when our disgust for our own being, our indifference, our weakness, our hostility, and our lack of direction and composure have become intolerable to us. It strikes us when, year after year, the longed-for perfection of life does not appear, when the old compulsions reign within us as they have for decades, when despair destroys all joy and courage. Sometimes at that moment a wave of light breaks into our darkness, and it is as though a voice were saying: "You are accepted. You are accepted, accepted by that which is greater than you, and the name of which you do not know. Do not ask for the name now; perhaps you will find it later. Do not try to do anything now; perhaps later you will do much. Do not seek for anything; do not perform anything; do not intend anything. Simply accept the fact that you are accepted!" If that happens to us, we experience grace After such an experience we may not be better than before, and we may not believe more than before. But everything is transformed. In that moment, grace conquers sin, and reconciliation bridges the gulf of estrangement. And nothing is demanded of this experience, no religious or moral or intellectual presupposition, nothing but acceptance.

If they didn't believe their religion was the way (or only way) to heaven they wouldn't be a part of that religion, but would be searching for another religion. As to how they can tell, I think it varies from person to person, but many people believe God answers prayers, and have prayed about the truthfulness of their religion, at least I have. If God answers your prayer, then you know He wants you to believe His answer, otherwise it would be mocking Him.

I agree, its not like anyone knows for sure? There may be ways through other religions or beliefs, so how can anyone know if they have never been to heaven? I think they say that because they believe their religion is the best one for them.

Honey, the bible isn't a manual. It is sort of a guideline. And if you were to read the bible, you would see that even Jesus believed in the different religions that were taught back then. They common denominator was that they all believed in God, heaven and hell. They taught good from evil, wrong from right. I truly believe that if you use those guidelines, you aren't going to be going in the wrong direction no matter what religion you choose.

I think reason and investigation of the truth are the only key. One must investigate all religions with an open mind and find out which
a. conforms to reason
b. produces good fruits, both for yourself and society
c. has real spiritual power
c. is very subjective and it depends on the purity and receptivity of a seeker's heart. That's why investigating religion really depends on our ability to purify ourselves first and abandon all limitations (dogmas, creeds, etc.) that might prevent us from recognizing the truth.
These are just some personal thoughts.

FORGET RELIGION
Christ is the path of salvation.
Christ is the truth of God's Word.
Christ is the life eternal.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
Christ is the tree of life.
Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
God's Word is not a religion but a reality.

We are without excuse knowing just by the things that are made that there is a God and that He demands Faith in Him. He left a trail thru out history of His mighty works and deeds with many nations, after nations, people after people, and they all will be a witness against us in the last day as to what we have done and are doing now. It will be worse punishment for us if we choose the wrong way.Because we have received so much. So you should give it alot of thought and consideration before you make any rash decisions concerning God. God says you will find me if you search for me with your full heart and mind and understanding. You are to seek God above all. We all are commanded to seek God above everything. Simply because that is what makes it work for us.

Through the study of Scripture and the Church Fathers, we see that, not only is the Catholic faith biblical, Catholicism is Bible Christianity par excellence.
Because the Old and New Testament Scriptures are the divinely-revealed, written Word of God, Catholics venerate the Scriptures as they venerate the Lord's body. But Catholics do not believe that God has given us His divine Revelation in Christ exclusively through Scripture. Catholics also believe that God's Revelation comes to us through the Apostolic Tradition and teaching authority of the Church.
What Church? Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus' flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).
By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible) at the end of the fourth century. We therefore believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church. After all, nothing in Scripture tells us what Scriptures are inspired, what books belong in the Bible, or that Scripture is the final authority on questions concerning the Christian faith. Instead, the Bible says that the Church, not the Scriptures, is the pinnacle and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15) and the final arbiter on questions of the Christian faith (Matt. 18:17). It is through the teaching authority and Apostolic Tradition (2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6; 1 Cor. 11:2) of this Church, who is guided by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16,26; 16:13), that we know of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures, and the manifold wisdom of God. (cf. Ephesians 3:10).
