....And without the bible as your "proof", would you still come up with this estimate, or does your "proof" fit with your already held belief?

Suppose for a moment there was no bible,
would you still come to the same conclusions just based on collected evidence alone?...and what would all this proof be, that in such a short period of time, without an ice age, huge caverns and rock formations, mountains and millions of species of animal life can be formed and die out, AND the civilization of man gave rise at the very exact time,
and how would this make sense to you at all?

Human life started at 4000 BC Adam and Eve
2000 BC Abraham
0 Jesus
2007 today's date
that is around 6000 years of human life
the age of the Earth however is older. We can only speculate how old the earth was before man kind came.

The Scripture is about this world. I don't understand it to say that the "universe" is only 6000 yrs old. If I did not have the understanding that the earth is about 6000 yrs old, I don't know how I would make sense of all of the various "evidence" out there. There clearly have been catastrophic changes in climate. Mastodons and ferns have been found in Arctic areas. Clearly there have been ice ages, and warmer times. The magnetic force of the earth is decreasing by 1/2 ever 1500 years. if you project that trend back merely 10,000 yrs, life would not be possible on this planet... If I hadn't been told of the catastrophic flood in the days of Noah, I might come up with any number of strange ideas to try to explain the observed phenomena (which are well understood to be results of a great flood)

Yes. The chronology of the Bible places the earth about 6229 years old.

Outside of that-the best evidence we have for a young earth is the fact that no artifact can be dated and "confirmed" over about 5,500 years. Very old rocks and dinosaur bones are dated by speculation, not by hard evidence. They are "all" dated by the "assumed" ages of the geologic column and the index fossil. No radio-metric date is accepted as valid unless it falls within the ranges of dates allowed by the index fossil-which is based solely on the assumed age assigned to that specific layer in the column. What this means is that all those "old" ages are mere speculation based on a guess at best. No one can prove a date beyond 6,000 years with a fossil or a star far away.

The Bible is what informs our faith, without it, it would be unlikely for us to come to that conclusion, wouldn't it? Personally, I think the world is anywhere from 8-10,000 years old.

Further, the universe has been expanding, and its rate is known. Had the earth really been millions, or even billions of years old, then at the time of the dinosaurs, the earth would've been closer to the Sun than Mercury is today.

That, and the amount of dust on the Moon should have accumulated to a deeper depth than the astronauts experienced when they landed there.

That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

6000 give or take. When God created Adam and Eve he created "Adults" not infants. The same with the "heavens and the earth", which explains why it appears so much older.

Your requirement to not use the bible don't work anymore than if I was to say "explain why you believe in evolution, but you may only USE the bible to back up your position."

If I had no instruction in basic education systems AND no bible, I would be too busy trying to feed my belly to even consider the origin of the universe. That is why I thank my God for both, and an organization of scientists that interpret scientific discoveries with a similar worldview as mine.

This site gives more than enough scientific proof for a young universe.

Give or take a little time, yes.
Without the Bible no we would not have a 6,000 year figure, that is where we get that information from. But we do have a Bible, and God has told us when creation took place.
