He vomits his food about once a week after eating. I'm guessing from hairballs but can this be helped or even prevented?

I've tried switching his food, he usually eats Iams for indoor cats & he's 2 yrs. old.

Brush your cat everyday to get rid of some of the shedding fur. Iams isn't that great of cat food. Has lots of by-products and fillers like corn. Cats can be allergic to fillers, making them vomit. Try buying a premium brand from a pet store that has no grains or fillers in it. This will keep your cat healthy which will reduce your vet bills in the future.

Cats can have allergy issues or digestion problems with different types of food. Beef, fish, and grains are the more likely culprets. Trying food a wet food that is free of those ingredients for a while may give you an idea of if those could be part of your problem.

Extra virgin olive oil in food can help with chronic hairball problems, if the vomiting is hairball related. I feed wet food and just add in about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per meal. It seems to keep things going in the proper direction and is simple to do.

If it is something that becomes more frequent or troublesome, definitely talk to your veterinarian.

Have you tried any hairball medicine like laxatone? Talk to your vet about what kind of hairball treatment he should have. Also it could be something else so you might want to have your vet just check him out to be safe. I hope this helps and good luck with your cat.

Also there are types of cat food that are for hairball prevention so you might try those too.
