I think this is the standard practice. But there are always exceptions to the rule.
I was the MOH for my best friend last year and I asked the girls to split the cost of the catering between us. I paid for everything else myself for two reasons, #1 I was in a more financially stable place then the other girls and #2 I am anal retentive and wanted to things my way, so if I paid I didnt have to ask anyone for permission. However, we all 5 hosted the event together.
No matter what arrangement you guys agree on one thing is pretty standard: when you accept the invitation to be in a wedding, you also accept any financial responsibiltes that go along with it. This includes the cost of the shower.

Nowadays it is so hard to follow any wedding "protocol" as traditions have taken on an all new meaning. However, it has been my experience that the bridal party splits the cost of the shower. I was a matron of honor last year and we split the cost of the shower amongst the four of us. As long as everyone is in agreement then there shouldn't be any problems. Have fun!

Whether it is normal procedure or not should not matter (it is normal and expected by the way) Maybe it should be a "coin shower" to help her pay for things involved in the wedding, they are soooo expensive. Another idea is a "money tree" where you have a tree or branch and clothes pins and money gifts get clipped to the tree.

You are right on track. One other note -- no more than 3 people host the shower because traditionally, the bride should give a thank you gift to each hostess. It would become a financial burden to her to purchase more than 2 or 3.

Whats normal these days?? I think back in the day it was the maid of honor who gave the shower--but with the rising cost of everything splitting the cost is commendable--and I think the bride has very wonderful gals to call her friends-- :-)

I think tradition dictates that the MOH foot the bill for the shower, but I like your way much better. The bride chose her girls well-it's great that you're working together like that.

It's good of you to do that. Around here, the family members host the showers.
