water in all reality. You body needs the water and not all the sugar to jack you up even higher. If you start to get lactic acid burn....after your workout eat yogurt or a banana or even strawberries. They will help the burn.

It really depends on your fitness goals.

While both of these fluids serve the purpose of keeping you hydrated during your workout (which is critical if you are going to last more than 10 minutes!) Gatorade provides carbohydrates (sugar really) and salts to replenish those lost during exertion. This gives you an energy boost, allowing for longer periods of exercise without feeling worn out or "bonked" too quickly

If keeping weight down is not a problem, I'd advise using the Gatorade liberally. The extra sugars will allow you to workout longer and at a greater pace, and overall building more muscle.

If keeping weight down is a problem, I'd just go straight water - as the calories you burn off doing your workout you are just putting right back on with the Gatorade. I've unfortunately seen many a "heavy" person at the gym busting their *** while guzzling the Gatorade ... undoing most of the good they are doing in terms of weight loss.

For extended exercise, like running long distance or cross country skiing or biking - Gatorade (or other sports drink) is a must to maintain you for long periods. But for just a regular gym workout, think about if weight control is an issue or not and choose accordingly.

It depends on how hard your working out. A short workout or lifting weights, wont cause you to sweat excessively. In which case stick with water. Gatorade in that situation will only give you added Calorie intake without much benefit. However if your workout includes a lot of cardiovascular exercise, like running for more than a few miles, swimming for a long time, riding the bike for more than 30 minutes or so, Then due to the loss of electrolytes through your sweat you should drink a sports drink like Gatorade. I learned this the hard way. I was trail running during the summer in Utah with plenty of water. However after 3 hours of running I had lost so much salt through my sweat that my body couldn't function anymore. I passed out on the trail and wound up in the Emergency room. Water in that case was not enough.

So it turns out that either is fine, as long as you don't drink too much. Drinking too much water OR Gatorade during a long workout can lead to a serious condition, which recently resulted in the death of a young woman in California as well as two contestants in the 2002 Boston Marathon.

The condition is called "hyponatremia," which translates to "not enough salt in your blood." Salt is responsible for making sure your nerves work -- like the nerves that make your heart beat.

So if you're just taking a sip from the drinking fountain here and there between sets, you're okay with water. But if you're pounding through a liter of either beverage during an hour workout, read some of the articles in the Sources field, especially the NY Times article. It's as thorough as you'd expect from the Times.

Have you ever looked on the back of a bottle of Gatorade and seen how much sugar per serving is in a bottle of Gatorade?
Hands down, water is by far the best no matter where you work out.

Of course, Water is better as Gatorade does not really contain as much water content. But Gatorade is flavoured rather than the tasteless water, so if you think you prefer the taster then drink Gatorade. Because the bottomline, is to get more water content to replenish yr body right.

well both are good, water is best unless you are hard core, then i would not say gatorade, i would advise a protein drink about a half an hour before your workout, and water in small amounts through out the work out, unless you have the time to break up the different types of working out then you may need to have more protein. My boyfriend does this and he is thin and muscular.

I think water but alot of people drink Gatorade. I herd that you need that if you are working out for more than an hour at a time and burning alot of calories.
