Why does getting tired/sleepy make our eyes burn and get red?

because when your body needs and/or prepares to sleep your autonomic nervous system slows everything down, including tear production which keeps eyes moist.

Dear friend,
r u working a lot with computer nowadays? or don't you have enough rest these days? Do u wear glasses and not having optometrist visit recently? Do u have past history of allergies? and r u living in a polluted city?
All these matters could be causes of ur problem.

Because our eyes are not creating sufficient wetness to keep them at tolerable levels and because the eyelid muscles begin to become strained and dont work as well. Thus allowing more material into the eyes

because there is more blood going into the veins in your eye and they dialate, which make them red. i'm not sure why they burn. but i do know that the purpose of caffeine is that it draws blood and water away from your eyes, which de-puffs them and helps you wake up... and it amps you up.

This happens to me.. You might be in need of an eye exam. Your eyes are stressed out. They are trying to tell you this.
