I think it means that many people are happy to petition God in prayer, but are unwilling to take up the good works (volunteering in hospitals, etc.) that would really make a difference in the world.

True. Most people want to work for God so He will help them when they are in a bind. They are half-hearted, they want to run their lives themselves while things are good and only give it to Him when they are bad.

I think they are saying that people want to tell God what to do. I think that is true. I also think that we have no idea what He feels about anything. The bible is in no way about God.

I think it's fabulous, as it captures the essence of today's evangelical Christians.

While they preach and condemn others for not following in the footsteps of god, they never follow through on the footsteps they are supposed to take.

Here is a verse that describes the kind of person the sign is referring:

Matthew 7
20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
