Malibu is a city located in western Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 12,575.

No, it's not a part of Los Angeles. It's an independent town of 12,575.

Malibu is known primarily for its beautiful beaches and celebrity residents. Actor Martin Sheen (AKA President Bartlet on "The West Wing") was elected Mayor in 2000. He has since been succeeded by the decidedly less glamorous Ken Kearsley.

Note that the while L.A. county is often conflated with the city of L.A. in common speech, they are actually separate entities. The former is an administrative organ of the state -- governed by the county Board of Supervisors. The latter is a municipality -- governed by the Los Angeles City Council and the Mayor of Los Angeles.

Since no independent city (municipality) can legally be considered "inside" another independent city (municipality).. technically places like Malibu, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood are not "inside" the City of Los Angeles. Though the district of Hollywood is because it isn't a city...

Yes and no.

Malibu is a coastal city in the LA metro area. The city of Los Angeles is to the north, east and south of it. However, it is an independant city. Nevertheless, if someone were there they could well say that they were in LA. Many areas that were part of the city of Los Angeles are now there own towns ie West Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc...

Malibu is a city in the northwest part of Los Angeles County. It is one of 88 cities in Los Angeles County. The City of Los Angeles is a small part of Los Angeles County, which county, has the largest population of any county in the United States, almost 10 million people...so I guess it depends on which L.A. you are thinking of.Yes it is in Los Angeles County, No, it is not in the City of Los Angeles....

Yes. (I know since I live here). It's in Los Angeles County. But Malibu is addressed as "Malibu, CA" instead of Los Angeles, CA. Specifically, it's on the Westside of L.A.

Just like Hollywood is in Los Angeles County too--but it's always referred to as "Hollywood" instead of "L.A." if you get what I mean.

For the person who said it's not a part of L.A. above--it is!
