Ok, I am not an Atheist but I have to stand up for these guys cause I haven't seen anyone else. Do people realize what the definition of an Atheist is? Guess what.......they are NOT devil worshipers. I have seen so many people call them this and it annoys me. so to clear it up for everyone.

ATHEISM is the disbelief in the existence of any deities. It is commonly defined as the denial of theism, amounting to the positive assertion that deities do not exist, or as the deliberate rejection of theism. However, others—including most atheistic philosophers and groups—define atheism as the simple absence of belief in deities (cf. nontheism), thereby designating many agnostics, and people who have never heard of gods, such as newborn children, as atheists as well.

Actually, I always stand up for atheists, as do many of the other Wiccans and Pagans on this board. But we also have intimate knowledge of what it is to be called devil worshippers, how erroneous that statement is, and how much damage it does to our "public image" nationwide. "Devil worshipper" is a very hard label to fight against in this society, and if Christians were really Christ-like (i.e. loving) they might think more before throwing the term out so flippantly.

In general, you're right. However, atheism is not MERELY the disbelief in the existence of a diety/dieties...it is the claim of absolute knowledge that no such thing exists. In this respect atheists are intellectually dishonest and extraordinarily arrogant...but not in any way satanic.

Yeah I just brought this up in another question. When I was in school and it came up that I am am atheist they always thought that meant I worshipped the devil..I had to correct many people but sooner or later they got it.

I know you don't worship the devil. How can you worship something that you believe does not exist?I believe in your right to believe in anything, or not believe. However, The Bible does say " Let us reason together" quoting the deity that I believe in.
Thanks for the op.

You are absolutely correct! An atheist does not believe in ANY deities, so how could they worship the devil, even though they don't even believe in him?

Very religious people are threatened by atheists so they feel they need to demonize them. The best way to do that is to equate them with the worst enemy they can conjure--Satan himself. To them, it's justified because a lack of belief in their god is the ultimate evil. To be the ultimate evil, they must be allied with Satan. No way around it.

I think that type of logic is, well, illogical, but we're talking about people who base their lives on bronze-age ideals. So, given that fact, it makes perfect sense.

I realize that Atheism is not the worshiping of the devil... But to not believe... Well, that's just stupid. God created and is the existence of everything!

Yes but according to the believers, we came to this belief due to the actions of the Devil, not because we studied the evidence and came to our own conclusions.

thats why they used to burn us at the stake.
