I want to get some tattoos. I'm a 22 year old female and I was afraid the designs might be a bit 'butch' but everyone says i couldn't ever look butch cause of my face.........that pic of me on the avatar doesn't look like me at all but i have red hair, blue eyes and white skin.
Anyway
I love rats, mermaids and spiders and green
MY TAT IDEAS>>>>
1. the little mermaid Ariel but dark looking (sort of hot evil)
2. Rat skeleton
3. Scythe
4 green leafy vine up my hip going over the side of my stomach and up over my shoulder blade and neck on my left side
5 Year of the rat symbol on my back
ANd where should i put any of the designs (except 4) that you think would be nice?

The year of the rat symbol is covering 60-75% of my back in black.
Or a tribal rat?
Or one big spiderweb?

I have been thinking with these for over two years. Rats mean a lot to me, and so do mermaids I have owned a couple of ratties and have more now and well, i was born in the year of the rat too. These are things that never will change.

your ideas are good but i would make some modifications.
i would not get a symbol that covers such a large portion of my body. if you want a symbol make it smaller. the back is such a large and beautiful canvas they are perfect for whole scenes.
i don't know if i would go for ariel unless you feel a certain connection to her. there are so many possibilities for mermaids that would be less dated than a character.
why a rat skeleton and not just a rat? i think the idea is cool, i was just wondering.
also i'm not big on vines that go from one body part to another because unless you can see it all at one time it doesn't seem very cohesive. but that is totally your choice just as long as you know that tattoos like that sometimes don't turn out looking as well over all. are you getting a vine just because of the "green" aspect of it? because green could be worked into any of the tattoos you want already.
i would go for ariel on the back. rat on the ribcage, arm or thigh. as for the others i'm not sure. but good luck!

You should think very carefully before you put anything on your back. Like 'somebody' said, it's the perfect canvas. If you are willing to get as much ink as you say you are, think about getting an entire back piece. It will look much better than a bunch of separate small tattoos. I think a spider web covering your back, with a large, colorful (maybe green) spider would be nice. The rat could go on your shoulder... assuming you let your real rat sit there. And, your mermaid could be on your leg with it's tail wrapping around... or, on your arm, if you don't want it that big. Or... you could have the all three things in the spider web...

I wouldn't worry about them looking "butch". Now I've seen some girls with some nasty ones & wonder "what the heck were you thinking" but hey always remember - it's YOUR body and if your ok with it then its ok.
Placement is very important for many reasons. Mainly you should always consider your carreer path & how it would (if it would) effect it. But it shouldn't keep you from getting one if that is truely what you want to do. I like your ideas - they have a meaning or reason behind them and some what unique. 1. Your Ariel idea I think would look good if she was on the rock (not the way she is in the movie coming out of the water ya know) but sitting on it seductivley. Since you want her "sort of hot evil" and somewhere on your back or even your side (if you have that type of body) above your hip kinda. 2. Rat skeleton would look better in tribal I think on the back of your calf like it's climbing up it (that would be so cool). 3. check out this picture for your scythe idea - it kinda includes your vine idea into it and would look neat on your back shoulder blade (without the reaper of course) http://www.deardeath.com/the_grim_reaper.htm 4. the leafy vine is a neat idea but I don't think it should cover so much of different body areas. It should be more localized and be caustious of your stomach area in case you have kids later. Them little bundles do things to your stomach that some times aren't pretty. 5. Your rat symbol I'd keep small. Some where like the back of your neck, between your shoulder blades or even the back of your calf.
I have most of mine on my legs & back. My right leg is called my family tree. My tats resemble a family member (even my closest friends because they are also a part of my family). My back is mostly tribal designs even for my heritage. My left leg is my called my zoo - animals.
Hope this helped. Plan everything carefully as you are doing & have done. Good luck!!!

You should put some pictures up then ;)
I like number 4 - it's very eco, subtle (gets people thinking) and more famine too. The rat is relevant to you, but its got different meanings that most people might misinterpret. Besides, it'll need a lot of black which is gonna sting plus discolour over time.
The mermaid is cute & kinda cool sounding, butit'll be a mini picture of you... so are you really adding something that people can't already see?

The leaf vine would look good going up from your foot to your hip circling around th leg do you know what I mean. the rat should go on your lower back. The web with spider should go on your butt or shoulder.

I have four tattoos and only 3 of them have meaning. I think if these are things you like then by all means, get it done. However, just remember this, it's forver. I am looking at getting my first tattoo covered up because I can't stand to look at it anymore.

i like all of your ideas, i am just concerned about the placement of the tattoos. as women, we have to think ahead to things like pregnancy - and tattoos that cover any part of your hips, stomach or lower back will become distorted if you ever have children naturally. i have a few tattoos, and i always had to think about where they would be least affected by the body changes of a woman.

They all sound great, but get there where you want. Don't worry how anythin will look, if you have the confidence you can pull anything off. I have alot of tattoos and I love them, they're part of me and mean alot to me. Go for it, if it makes you happy you should never regret

I would start out with a small one on your lower back. See if you can handle the pain and like the tattoo. Remember, you have to live with it the rest of your life.
