I am an athiest and was wondering if any of you have had revealed your athiesm to someone's parents which you were dating, and they, after making a face of disgust, try to compell your signifigant other to break up with you. It has happened to me, It's kind of a strange predicament

Nope. My husband's family still doesn't know. LOL
I'm very private about it, because: 1. I just can't stand conflict and, 2. I never really thought it was anyone elses business.
They aren't uber religious, though. I think they started getting disgusted with the Catholic Church when the priest pedophile story broke. They stopped going to mass and started up at a Protestant church....they are in their 70's.
They semi-sorta agreed with my husband when he told them he thinks it's all a scam.

My wife is from a fundamentalist background. I am a liberal Christian, Catholic (Orthodox), card-carrying member of the ACLU, a Freemason and a Shriner. If you can imagine, that is worse than being an atheist. They literally believe that I am member of the Church of the Antichrist. I try not to talk about it around them.

All I can say is never bring it up to the parents. If they ask tell them and explain sort of why but if you did it "just because" ...well good luck.
I find its hard to tell people that I am an athiest and for them to understand. When I was in school someone asked me if I believed in god. I said no and they asked me "do you worship the devil?" Just remember people can and are stupid and some really dont even understand what a atheist is.

My boyfriend's parents are VERY religious- in fact my boyfriend went to catholic school. I told his parents I am an atheist and they said they would pray for me and I said they can do whatever makes them comfortable and after 2 years they're still praying and I'm still atheist. The question has arisen about what we would teach our kids if we have them and my boyfriend and I are in agreement that we will teach any children we may have about as many religious options as possible and let the child choose. I hope it works.

My husband didn't tell his parents until after we were married. Ever since, they send cards with scripture on them for any occasion that comes up. Can't just get a regular ole birthday card, oh no, it has to be a religious one. They also call and want to quote scripture and pray with me. As soon as they start, I hand the phone to my husband. For the most part, it doesn't cause problems but I sure am glad they live in CA and I'm in OH!

I have actually never experienced this, but I'm very glad that my boyfriend has not said anything about me being Wiccan to his family. His mom's side of the house is Catholic and his dad's side of the house is Lutheran. They currently adore me, and I wouldn't want to be stuck where you are just because my views don't run with the majority.

Well I married a Christian with Christian parents. They know I am an atheist. I think their first impulse was to be bothered by it, but I think they are perplexed because they see how nice I am and how well I treat their daughter and our son. Plus they just like me. It doesn't jive with what they expect an atheist to be like.
My grandma tried to convert me back for a while. Didn't work.

I am sorry. You must be young. An older mature woman would do as she pleases if her parents had a problem.
I am agnostic and my gentleman friend is a Christian. He is an open minded intelligent man, thank goodness.

Nope sorry, never happened to me. And it probably won't, my girlfriend's parents are not really religious so I doubt they would care.
