I have two 6 week old pups. I am trying to crate train them, at night when i go to bed I put them in both in, with some toys and paper incase they need to pee or poop. They wake up every 3 hours crying and yapping unitil i (almost crying from lack of sleep) let them out for maybe 10 mins... then they will go back in. How can I solve this.... I am SOOOO TIRED!!! Thanks!

They have small bladders and have to be let out more frequently at this age. Just like an infant human you will have to learn patience and lose a little sleep until they get older and are able hold their bladders longer.

At 6 weeks old, a puppy will have to use the bathroom about every 2-3 hours. Dogs also will not generally use the bathroom where they sleep. It sounds like your puppies are doing crate training just right!

Puppies are babies and WILL need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, especially when they are that young. You just have to suck it up and let them out to go to the bathroom. And take naps.

When you do let them out, don't talk to them, don't play. Just snap on a leash, take them out to go potty. Once they are finished, they go right back in the crate. This helps them understand that when they wake you up, you mean business. No fooling around. You wake up, you go to the bathroom, then you go right back to sleep.

I'd also try putting a sheet or old blanket over the crate. For some reason, that helped my dog (and many others) sleep through the night. No idea why it helps, but it does!

I had this problem with my puppy when we got her at 3 months old. Before we got the crate, she slept between us in our bed. So when we got the crate, we put it in our room. She cried all the time. The only thing that worked for me was leaving the closet door cracked open with the light on, turning our sound machine on (heartbeat) and every time she would cry I would say - it's okay Twinkie, shhh it's okay - over and over in a calm even tone so she knew I was there with her. It took about 2 weeks for her to get used to it and sleep through the night. Oh, and I also covered the crate with a dark sheet, accept for the door of it, so it would feel smaller and more cozy to her (like a den). Now she goes in on her own at night and several time during the day. I guess it's like her own little safe place. I know it is hard on you and the pups right now, but it will get better. It just takes a little time and lots of love and patients.

Hopes this helps. Good luck!!!

Try not feeding them 4 hours before bedtime. Put an alarm clock near them but not in with them. Put a heating pad (on low) under the crates. Make sure there is a cloth or blanket available for them but keep it about half the size of a wash cloth so that you can throw it away after they pee or poop on it.

Puppies miss their siblings, their mom and you when your not around. The above things help to alleviate but not eliminate that.

Failing the above keep the same routine but put the pups somewhere where you can't hear them (warm of course) and continue on. Eventually puppies come to find that the crate is a safe place and will quit their behavior. Heck I even have a cat that goes to her crate when I tell her.

Unfortunately, you've already made one major mistake - you gave in. Now the puppies have learned that persistent crying and yapping will get you up to let them out.

You must not react to this bid for attention. It may mean a few sleepless nights for you with lots of crying and yapping unti they get the message, you're not coming to let them out. I know it will be heartbreaking at first - but believe me, once you have this sorted EVERYONE will be alot happier.

As well as leaving toys, you might consider leaving the tv or radio on for them, also "Kongs" (available at any pet supply store) filled with peanut butter and kibble for them to chew on as a distraction.

If you are only crating them at night, try feeding them in the crate, and crating them for short periods during the day when they receive ample goodies for being in the crate so it becomes a positive place, and not just where they go when you are going to bed.

Good Luck!!!

Crate training is a difficult thing, and it has to be done correctly. This is the very best information I have located in the past about crate training that was so useful to me- http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html

But, by letting them out everytime they bark, you are teaching them that barking will get them out. Try training them during the day when you are home or when you go to the grocery store or something, and then let them out at night. YOUR comfort is just as important, you don't want to flip out at them from lack of sleep. Make sure that the crate isn't used for punishment, and is cleaned soon after it is urinated in. What I did for my puppy was put him in during the day with lots of treats after he went potty. I told him that he was a good boy. Left for an hour, and then came back. Gave him more treats, and then let him out to go potty. Then I put him back in and pet him through the crate door. I did this for about 3 weeks, then I left him in during the day for a few more hours. It worked for me! GOOD LUCK!

Sad to say they are going to do that for about 2-3 weeks....your best action to take is if possible, move them as far from your room as possible...cover the crate with a blanket. And try your best to ignore the cries...the more you go to them when they cry, the more they will cry for you. But, after a few weeks, you puppies will be trained to go in thier crate and be quiet and give you peace of mind...Good Luck, it is worth the trouble so hang in there.

First of all, why are you trying to crate train 6 week old puppies. They should still be with their mom. They cry and yap because they are too young to be locked in a crate. You cannot start crate training them until they are at least 8 weeks of age. Trust me. I would know.

They are just like real babies...they have small bladders and still miss Momma. So it's just going to take some time. It's actually a good thing they wake you up to go outside, otherwise you'd also have to worry about cleaning up a mess at 3 am. It's going to take some pateince getting them adjusted to their new life in the kennel.

utilising the crate approach is between the main valuable techniques of homestead-preparation. the common approach would be as follows: canine in cage except right now supervised. In cage at nighttime. Upon growing to be, set loose and supply cope with for sturdy deeds. Feed, set loose lower back, cope with. you could play with canine or positioned lower back interior the cage, Play on tile floor and watch whilst taking part in. Play for under the quantity of time the canine can carry it. notwithstanding if that's purely for 10 minutes, then do not enable out for extra suitable than that quantity of time. A 5 month previous domestic dog might carry it longer, yet you could desire to be very watchful and on no account enable it out longer than that element. i might say 20 minutes may be the max for an untrained domestic dog. After play, set loose, lower back, cope with, and put in cage. it is the approach. quickly, the domestic dog learns that it gets a cope with each and each time it is going exterior, and additionally learns that it does not look going interior. it is conditioning for the canine. If it makes a mistake, this implies you left it out of the cage for too long, and you is purely not doing that, lower back. p.c.. the job up with paper towel, positioned it exterior and gently practice domestic dog. Say, "sturdy canine circulate out". Make not extra of it. you may get books approximately this concern. to respond to you question: She desires to be interior the crate while not right now supervised. This reinforces the finished: Oh, look, I actual have not executed any poopies or peeps interior the homestead!! i assume that's how that's meant to be.
