Hi,
I will be in Thailand in 5 days, and was wondering, would I be capable of calling home from there on my mobile phone?

Also, does anyone know how long it would take for a postcard to reach Australia from there?

Cheers

A call "from" your cell is possible to call "overseas" from your home country but may not be possible to call "home" unless your provider has:

1. An agreement with the local telecom company network provider in the country you visit
2. Your phone must be an "International" phone and not a, say, US based only network only phone from say Verizon, Sprint, etc

Check your phone technology to see if it supports international calling and your provider for support of international calls "from" overseas.

Cards could almost be thrown to Australia across the short sea distance...just kidding.

Daily mail service would be standard to Australia since they are very close by air and trade each day with each other on other items

It depends on what type of cell phone you have and if you have International calling enabled with your carrier. However, it will be much cheaper calling from an International phone booth than using your cell phone. I was in Thailand a couple of years back and I could call the US for around 10 cents (US) per minute. My advice is to leave the cell phone at home.

Sending a postcard back to the US takes at least 10-14 days. That should be a little quicker to Australia, so I would guess you should expect at least a week for it to arrive.

That depends on your phone.
If it is a TRIBAN then it might. If it is an off the self USA phone then, I doubt it.

Mail is a question unknown. I would say at least 5 days.

With auto-roam, you can.

As for postcard, expect about a week.
