I make sure they get enough exercise. They are only allowed television in small doses, and unless there is a vital hazard they play outside. Even in the winter, my guys are outside. Ironically, they never get sick either. If they get wet-they come in and change clothes and go back out.
In the summer if it is over 90 they do come in and play or we go to the pool and play.

Most children don't get enough exercise. With Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, Cable TV, and the Internet we've lost the times where kids actually went outside to play. I realize that we now have safety issues and that today's children don't have the outdoor freedom I had. It's the parent's responsibility to make up for this and not with massive amounts of planned activities. I think some parents have gone overboard with this, possibly to compensate for the lack of outdoor playtime. The other problem with this is that most of these children now have no imaginations, don't know how to entertain themselves and are either overweight or anorexic looking. I still believe most teenage females have developed eating disorders to compensate for the lack of outdoor physical activity. It's a tough call. I know when my daughter was a teen I wouldn't let her walk a mile to a friends house. This was not due to living somewhere bad. On the contrary, we lived in a very upscale neighborhood. But, even those have their weirdos.

Mine do. They have totally free choice to watch as much tv as they want, and play video games whenever and as long as they want. Because they know this, they often choose to leave the games, they can always come back. The irony is adults worry so much about kids' activities, how active are YOU? Do you set a good example of getting out of the house? Do you get home from work, spend an hour cleaning and cooking, then watch TV or read the paper? Just my not-so-humble viewpoint.
We have family exercize every morning at 6:30 for half an hour, and they usually play outside for up to four hours every day, even in very cold weather. It's been 10º to 30º outside every day for a week, and they are still outside. They run around in the house as well, very active pretend play.

Yes I do. My children are still very young though (3 1/2 and 15 months) but they just run around all day like crazy. I am thankful for that. I never wanted a couch potato for a child. I do let my kids watch TV but they never sit through it.

I would say not whether it be summre or winter since I work full time and go to school full time. I just don't have time to go out with them, except for maybe every other weekend and these days you don't dare let them outside by themselves or they end up on the back of a milk carton. My God you can't even let your kid ride a school bus anymore unless you are right there when they get on and off.

absolutely. I can hardly keep them indoors. Even when its freezing they just bundle up and head out. We live in a rural area so they are always riding bike down the road, going for hikes in the area and my 8 year old lives on her heelez. They like to sit and watch TV but if i gave them a choice..they are out the door.

Now, yes, but when he is old enough for video games/TV, he will have to spend a minute outside playing for every minute he wants to spend watching tv or playing games.

I have two boys who play baseball and one swims, as well. They, also, ride their bikes and skateboard with the other kids in our neighborhood every day. So, yes, they get plenty of exercise!

If I left it up to the public school system, he wouldn't get enough exercise; but he plays outside, bmx races, does motocross, and skateboards. Its really up to the parents to see to it that their kids are fit and healthy, and we're doing our part!
