" And when they were come into the house , they saw the young child with Mary his mother , and fell down and worshipped (him): and when they had opened their treasures , they presented unto (him) gifts ; gold , and frankincence , and myrrh." Matthew 2:11. Today when Catholics go into a church the first one they address is Mary.We were recently at a Catholic funeral and the only time the name of Jesus was said is when they would "Hail Mary mother of Jesus." Why didn't the wise men say "Hail Mary mother of Jesus when they saw her ????

Praise His Holy Name! FANTASTIC question!!!
I totally agree with you! No one has ever been told nor did they ever pray to, bow down to or worship Mary before, after or during the life of Jesus the Christ. It seems ludicrous to think that we need to pray to Mary in order to get to Jesus, who then in turn speaks to His Father on our behave! When all we have to do is speak to our Father directly through His Son, our Savior! This need to worship Mary is derived from the Pagan need to worship fertility and the sun whether anyone wants to believe this or not, it is still the truth! The pagan's felt the need to worship women in their fertility rituals. NEVER was the Jews allowed or taught to do such a wicked thing - and when they did follow the ways of the heathen they were and still are being punished for such adultery to God! First of all when the Jews were worshiping Jesus as the Messiah, the leaders of the temple and other religious teachers perceived this as Blasphemy to God (the worshiping of anything other than God Almighty) and on this platform demanded for the death of our Savior. Why then would anyone think that praying to a woman (even the woman who bore the Christ) would be considered not Blasphemy if the Son of God was put to death for just such a thing. Let's remember that women were not held in such high esteem for the Jewish faith as it were in the Pagan culture and religions, because of the sin that Eve made when she not only ate of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, but also got her husband to eat of it too. This was a sin that women down through the ages have been punished for over and over and NEVER would a Jew or a follower of Christ do such a WICKED thing!!!
Another question to consider is why would God the Almighty have us pray to a woman who didn't even know where her own Son was - how could she help us???
God Bless You

Mary should be remembered as the one who was used of God to be Jesus' mother on earth, however scripture says, that no one should be worshiped except Him. The wise men came to see the Christ child, He is the one the star pointed to not Mary. Jesus Christ- our salvation. Not Mary. No one is to be worshiped except Him.

Surely you recognize the words "Hail (Mary), full of grace, the Lord is with you (Luke 1: 28)" and "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb (Jesus) (John 1: 42)"

You are indeed ignorant if you think that Catholics worship Mary. If you really were at a Catholic funeral, you would notice that at no time is Mary worshipped.

At the Catholic Mass, Mary is mentioned three times. The first time is when we ask her, all the angel and saints, and all of our brothers and sisters to pray for us to the Lord, our God.

The second time is in the Creed in which we profess our belief that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary.

The third time is to recognize that she, along with the angels and saints are with us at the Eucharist.

The wise men did not worship Mary and Catholics do not do so either.

Catholics do not worship Mary. We just show her respect for giving birth to our Lord. We don't address Mary first. When we enter a Church, the first thing we do it the Sign of the Cross. "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit".

Perhaps they were not so "wise" after all. As a lifelong Catholic, albeit, not a "Roman" Catholic, I can tell you that I have NEVER met a single Catholic of any stripe that "worships" The Blessed Virgin. We reserve worship for the Most Holy Trinity. We honor Mary as the Theotokos and the Ever Virgin. Just like the Councils of the Church, Martin Luther, John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli did. And those fellows are hardly "catholic" in any sense of the word.

Catholics don't worship Mary, firstly.

Prayer is not worship. Prayer is communication. Worship is reserved for God alone. Both of these are Biblical.

There is no church doctrine that cannot be supported scripturally.

------------

Mary isn't dead. Heaven is a place for the Living, and Mary is presumably in Heaven... I kinda doubt the mother of your Messiah would get sent by her own son to Hell, after all.

Mary is the mother of Christ. She deserves some recognition. Catholics do not worship her. She is a mediator between God, and Jesus for them. Like Jesus is a mediator for God for some protestants. It is a cycle of respect - something you are lacking right now.

Mary was just a very pious woman. Nothing more.

Also, as Zoroastrian Magi, they believed that one should only worship God.
