One idea of the origin of the soul mate comes from Greek mythology. When the world was created, there were three races of people - men, who lived on the sun, women, who lived on the earth, and men/women who lived on the moon. The men/women were one being with half of each - two faces, four arms, four legs, etc. Well, all these races of humankind were gigantic, and the Gods became afraid of them, particularly of the men/women on the moon, so they split the men/women in two to make them smaller. But, having been split into two, the now singular men and women were desperately unhappy, and went to extreme lengths to find their former half, whom they could not live without.

Hence the idea of the soul mate: someone who was long ago literally the other half of your being, and is now separate from your and must be found so you can join again and truly find happiness.

I think I've found mine. But I've thought that before and been wrong, so I tread carefully these days.

The Bible say at Genesis 2:24 that two must become one flesh. The operative word here is "become". Two people eventually become what might be called soul mates by marrying and existing together through good and bad times, living, loving, compromising and most of all being bound together in a common relationship with God. At Matthew 9:5-6 Jesus quotes the above passage and adds "What God has yoked together, let no man put apart." God is certainly interested in the success of marriages. That is why he included instructions for marriage in his holy word, the Bible. Some may feel that they are already soul mates when they marry because of feeling a deep connection to the other person. Despite this, they still have to go through the same ups and downs as most other couples. The problem is that many couples do not stay with their mates long enough to become soulmates. They want this deep, soulful connection right away. They do not want to work for it. The ones who feel certain that they have found their soulmate are more likely to work at their marriage and make it a success.

Soul mates do exist but not probably how many think that they do. Soul mates are those souls that we have asked to be a part of our lives and help us to learn and experience many different things in our lifetime. These soul mates can be our family members, friends, lovers, teachers and anyone who has had a major impact on our life – whether positive or negative impact.

Soul mates as lovers and partners are not perfect relationships. There is a huge heart connection and many just know they are meant to be together. But sometimes, these relationships have the biggest challenges and the biggest rewards. Soul mates still have to work at loving one another and understanding each other. When all things are great, it can be the most intense and unconditional love you can ever find.

I am absolutely certain that I have a soulmate - she happens to be my identical twin sister! This has nothing to do with physical similarities, or having things in common, or even just liking each other. I mean we are bonded spiritually.

This was not always the case. For many years I had nothing to do with God and I was in a spiritual wilderness. My twin, however, cared for me so much that she prayed for me for many years. When I found God (he had been waiting patiently for me) and became a Christian, my relationship with my sister changed. Suddenly, we were on the same wavelength and our hopes and dreams were aligned with God's purposes.

I can honestly say that I would willingly lay my life down for my twin, and I know she would do the same for me. If that isn't being a soulmate, I don't know what is!

Soul-mates aren't a what, but a who!! And yes I do believe that they exist, if somebody hasn't found there's yet, I think that's just God's way of telling them to wait a little while longer. Most people say I'm too much of an optimistic person. That is definitely a yes to that question, I believe I have found my soul-mate also.

bear with me...

In ancient indian tradition there is an energy that flows within the human form. This energy flows thru seven energy centers with the body aligned with the spine.

the central energy centre is called the heart chakra (chakra=wheel). it is believed that one of the conditions that arises if this energy centre is blocked is 'soul mate' angst.

the basis of this is that energy continuosly circles the lower three chakras and also the upper three but never gets to flow throughout the seven.

should one 'unblock' the heart chakra then one would find there soul mate - the only place it could exist - in oneself.

additional:
the heart chakra is unblocked by practicing love towards oneself.

I think that soulmates do exist and love the film "what dreams may come" staring robin Williams.

I believe that people will go to great lengths to find love and to hang on to it and if you find your soulmate like in the film you will be together forever.

No, you naturally get along better with some people than others and somewhere there will be someone with very similar views to your own, I do not think that makes them a soulmate, just someone with whom you get along well and there will be a few others aswell, it's just a question of will you meet them ?
