I have dirty blonde to light brown hair.. I straighten my hair every day, and quite frankly, it's fried. I haven't dyed my hair in over six months and I want to go completely blonde. Every time I go to the salon, they tell me that I'd look better with highlights (I'm SURE to get me to spend more!!). I'm sick of highlights.. I want to go full-on Jessica Simpson blonde.

Does anyone know how I can do this at home, without frying my hair or looking obviously fake? I just want it to be a 'normal' blonde, not a fake bleach blonde color...and I really don't think I could afford any more split ends.. I'd like to use something that doesn't dry me out too bad!!

Thing is, I tried it before.. but at that time my hair was Auburn and it took me three or four times with super bleach to get the red out, and when I did, my hair was white and fried.. it's been a while since I bleached it, and it has repaired itself for the most part. I don't want to kill it again. But I want it blonde! HELP!

Whoa. This was me a long time ago. I learned to lay off the dye and straightening every day and it paid off. I know that it is extremely difficult to do when you want to be a blonde, but you should work on getting your hair in great shape first before you take this on.

You will not be able to acheive a color like Jessica Simpson's at home unless you bleach your hair. Her hair is almost a bleached blonde. Believe me I have colored my hair forever. Dirty blonde to light brown hair will ONLY lighten up 2 shades with regular haircolor (like Preference by Loreal) but you would need a bleaching kit or something similar to get your hair that light.

If your hair is fried and you try to color it, the most brittle parts will break off (believe me, I know this the hard way too) I did this years ago and couldn't brush my hair for 3 months or it would break off in the brush. PLEASE reconsider coloring your hair.

Also, ANY hair stylist worth their salt will tell you that you CANNOT get rid of split ends with any product out there. There is NOTHING you can do other than cut them off. Seriously. There is no such thing as a "split end mender"...once you get them they are there until you cut them off. You need to find a stylist who will tell you the truth and not try to get you in there for highlights just to make a buck!

A suggestion: why not try a brand new hairstyle? Go for something really funky and fresh! Even if it's shorter than you normally wear it. This will give you the change that you are craving and will make your hair a helluva lot healthier in the process! Go for something that you do not have to straighten or blowdry! If you have curls/waves just go with them for a few months or so! That way your hair can heal, and then some day you can get it the color you really want. Just keep in mind it's not forever and you are working toward a goal.

Well there's my 2 cents!

You need to go to a beauty supply, because a box color won't do this for you, try getting a 10 or 11 blonde and a 20 to 30 volume developer. Just take caution doing this at home has no grantee that it will turn out as you want it. A salon would be the best, trust me if they want money bad enough they will do what you ask, when they suggest highlights explain that you no longer want highlights but an all over, if they still refuse find another salon that will do it for you.

My response to your question will likely disappoint you. Though hairdressers and cosmetics vendors would like you to believe otherwise, in general the chemicals used to dye hair are damaging to the structural integrity of the hair shaft. Information you may collect on this matter from those with a vested interest will probably tell you that dying hair is a harmless process. You would probably get closer to the truth if you were to pose your question to a reputable dermatologist. Hair dye may add artificial pigment by a process of oxidation, or it remove natural pigment , called reduction, from the hair. When professional hairdresser, uses this process, the damage is very minimum, almost nothing. When the hair is damaged above 30%, the damage becomes more noticeable. More chemical, more damage.

I completely recommend you getting this professionally done because you want your hair to come out eveningly and sometimes coloring your hair at home is hard to apply coverage eveningly. A professional stylist will respect your decisions and just do the job they are asked you should not be forced to get highlights. The only way reason I say to get this done professionally because you will need a haircut after coloring your, since it's damaged already. Please remember that having blonde hair is very high maintenance.

Your hair is going to be fried no matter what if you do it at home. At home products are never as good as the salon's. However, if you're dead set on going this route, buy some products by pantene that rsetore your hair's health. They have some really good conditioning treatments and leave in treatments. I've died my hair alot too and it's the only product line I've tried that actually works to help fix my hair.
Then, as for styling goes, try to avoid blow drying because straightening will fry it enough and use a smoothing serum, like one from frizz ease. Also possibly use a lightweight pomade, like the one from pantene and use it lightly to help calm any frizz. Don't use too much or it will look greasy. Hope that helps!

salon color is so much better than box color BUT if you must...if your hair pulls red tones when you buy the color buy an ash color (it will usually say A behind the color number)...another alt. would be bleach, you can actually add conditioner to the bleach or color so it doesnt hurt your hair that bad (conditioner will not effect the chemical reaction)

as for the split ends, get a trim it makes a world of difference. And to keep that blonde up, try pantines color expressions...i've died my hair a million times and that is the stuff! Hope this helps!

please do not do it yourself...you already said what i was gonna say about the red, and then frying it off. even if your hair is kinda light, most people still pull a golden color....and as my fiance says-you don't wanna look like a cat peed on your head lol. if you are already dirty blonde...really Jessica isn't just bleached all over...she is super super heavy hilighted and it does look almost solid. but it looks soft because she still has some of her natural tones in it. like you said it's a more natural and not pam anderson type blonde. just bring a pic of jess that you like to a stylist-tell them to do a whole crap load of hilights, which is easier on the hair, comes out more even, and won't hurt your scalp the way bleach on it does (trust me I know) when your one you won't even know they are "hilights" you'll be a blonde :)

I'd say go to a salon. When they say highlights, say "no thank you, I want to go completely blonde." They can't decided for you, YOU are paying THEM!! I think that would be the safest. They have the best hair dyes for your hair. You can't get the same quality from a box at the store.
