Yes, non US citizens can join the military, but there will be a requirement to become a US citizen within a certain time frame during the enlistment.

I had a soldier who is Canadian and there were a few loopholes. Of course it's much easier for a Canadian since we have a pretty open border with them and this person in particular went to college in the states and had a residence and a social security card, but not citizenship.

I also went to basic training with a guy who was illegal from Cuba. He got to Miami and went strait to a recruiter's office and was in. I guess that is the real answer; have him walk into a recruiter's office and let them do the work. You would be amazed what those guys can pull off. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you have any more issues.

Non citizen can join the military. The military makes you eligible to be a citizen quicker than anyone. Your paper work could be processed while your in the service.

Non-citizens can join the military. I'm not sure about the green-card business, but with his record, he should have no problems getting in.

You will have to talk to a recruiter, but I do not believe you can join the US military without citizenship or being in the process of gaining US citizenship.

Why would the United States Army or any branch of the service want to hire someone who is not a citizen of the United States?

I would think a greencard would be required. Although check with the specific military branch to be sure.

I served with some Britts when I was in.

several people have joined the military with illegal Social security cards. They were just not punished or kicked out when the military found out because the military needs people so badly.

My husband is a recruiter for the US Army and he says no illegal alien is allowed in the Army at all. But I'm sure there are plenty of lies people have told to get in and the recruiters have no idea.
