2 HD devices to 1 HD tv?

I've asked this question 2 times before but worded it differently which seemed to cause confusion. I have 2 devices (cable box & xbox 360) that I need to hook up to my HD tv. My HD tv only has one component port. How can I hook both up at the same time? I bought a spitter but only one device will work and the other the screen rolls on the tv. Any suggestions?

A good component switch should work just fine

Check your cables, especially the green, which carries the sync.
