I am going on holiday in the next few weeks and thinking of buying a small camcorder which would fit nicely in my suitcase. Have you any suggestions as to the make and model of a camcorder that I could consider, together with a price range?

At present, I have a samsung 500x camcorder which is a bit bulky. Do you think it would be a good idea if I could part ecchange that for a more recent & smaller samsung model?

Thanks

The Hard Drive machines like the JVC Everio
http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-GZ-MG21EK-Everio-Digital-Camcorder/dp/B000ETV4Q6/sr=1-1/qid=1169135144/ref=sr_1_1/203-3244010-0284747?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
are neat, and can record a lot without you having to carry loads of tapes around. However, their picture quality isn't up to that of the best mini-DV cameras.

I have a Panasonic which is an older version of this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-NV-GS180B-Digital-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000EJENHS/sr=1-2/qid=1169135011/ref=sr_1_2/203-3244010-0284747?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
which is not much bigger. These models have 3 CCDs for the 3 colour channels, which means it produces a better picture - and I'm very happy with mine.

I'm afraid I have no experience with Samsung, but most mini-DV camcorders are pretty tiny these days. Other vendors are available too, of course - I've just used Amazon as an example.

There's a very nice compact Mini DV camcorder for £200.00 in Ambrose Wilson catalogue with *I think* 25x optical zoom (which is excellent). This model needs the mini DV tapes for recording though. Sell your old one as you won't get much, if anything as an exchange.
