I see nothing wrong with it - I know many people it's helped (my younger brother was on Effexor and it worked wonders for him). There are others who may argue against it, but in the end, it's up to you and what you believe in.

Well, i had severe anxiety a few years ago and what i did was began exercising every day and cut out all sugar and caffeine, and if i was totally anxious i would take one of my pills(i took them on an "as needed" basis) But after about a month of eating well and the exercise, as well as trying really hard not to freak about little things, i realized i hadn't taken one of my pills for about a month! It has been about 5 years and i have had barely no anxiety, Every one is different, but i think sometimes doctors are too quick to pass out the pills, instead of getting people to change their lifestyles. Also make sure you get enough sleep, to this day if i am extremely tired i feel a bit uptight but nothing i can't handle. Talk to your doctor about this. Because maybe you have some chemical imbalance, but also try these things in the meantime. Take Care!

well, there are two different sides to this I think. If you are having anxiety every once in a while and he wants to put you on a prn(as needed) medication then no, I would not do it. these meds are for the symptoms only and can be very addictive. That being said, if your doc wants to put you on a med to help with a mental illness aspect of anxiety, then yes, I would take it. just like i would take insulin for diabetes or dialysis for kidney failure. good luck!

In the past, my doctor put me on Zoloft. It made my night vision really bad for driving. Then he put me on Paxil. I had nightmares and pretty much cried all the time...
I guess I just want to tell you to research the side effects of the different meds. I think I remember a story a few years ago where people on Prozac lost their ability to cry. (?)
Give it a try - and if you are not happy with the way you feel, see your doctor again and ask him to put you on something else. Everyone reacts differently to the chemicals in the meds, but they should make you feel better and not worse.

If it isn't a necessity to keep me alive and healthy, I won't take it.
