I don't believe that any one who loves God would beat up those who don't believe in him.
People can call themselves Christian by name only and that doesn't mean that they are truly Christian.
The fruit of the spirit of God is peace, joy, love, patience, compassion etc. That is a true mark of a Christian believer. If you look in the bible Jesus was not violent with people.
Galatians 5:22;23
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
love;
joy;
peace;
patience;
kindness;
goodness;
faithfulness;
gentleness;
self-control.

I don't like bullies of any sort and even if they call themselves christians they are bullies first if they beat people up.
I agree with you that is wrong to beat someone up and I don't know those people either but God knows who they are. I will pray for all of you.
It is truly shameful that a group of people would do something like this to those you love and I do understand your anger. But I want to tell you that behavior doesn't come from God. It comes from the devil.
I am also sorry that has happened to you. :-(

There are some Christians who have different ideas than the mainstream. There are some Christians who express their ideas in a different way. These are fringe/marginal Christians and don't understand what's at the heart. I'm not dismissing them as false Christians, I want to make that clear. In the past, the Christian church did a lot of persecuting... we call it the Dark Ages. When the Catholic Church ruled the world and anyone who disagreed would be burned at the stake.
Just for clarity's sake I am not condoning what these people did. I think it is disgusting and wrong, but don't pin that on all Christians. Some of us aren't so bad, I might even venture that some of us are pretty nice.

Not sure why you don't want to hear it, but these men aren't Christians. If they were, they would not have committed such an atrocity. You are correct in saying that nothing justifies what these "Christians" have done.
People can claim to belong to any group they want, but that doesn't make them that. If I'm a registered Democrat, but vote Republican in every election, what does that make me? If an American goes overseas and behaves like a total ******, does that make all Americans *******? It does from the perspective of the country that person is visiting.
It's unfortunate that groups such as Christians are so badly misrepresented. If people would actually take the time and read the Bible and learn the true teachings of Christ, they would find a peaceful and loving way of life. But people feel insecure and threatened and so have to feel they have to "defend" their beliefs in violent ways. This is by no means biblical at all, but quite the opposite.
I'm sorry that your family was hurt in such an unjust way, but please don't judge a faith by some bad representatives. God bless.

It's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Religion is losing credibility more and more every day, with advances in scientific knowledge outstripping biblical fairy-tales. Christians are becoming more strident and defensive, because they're losing followers. About the only people converting these days are ex-hippies who are getting old and beginning to wonder if maybe all that stuff they heard in Catholic school might be true. The gay-bashers, whose biggest fear is they might be gay themselves, have a convenient defense now: "God says it's wrong." The bible has been used to justify bigotry for hundreds of years. The best we can do is wait them out, and vote for leaders who use the Constitution to base their beliefs rather than a book of folklore.
One other thing you should notice: Those Christians who claim they are being "persecuted" are usually persecuting everyone else, and getting slapped down for it.

They are no longer getting their way, unchallenged. It's no longer easy for them to pass laws based on Biblical texts, and more and more people are standing up to say "I don't want my child learning Intelligent Design". They are the majority in this country, but because people are standing up for their rights against Evangelicals they somehow feel it is persecution. Take the War on Christmas. There IS no War on Christmas. Just because stores are saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" - Christmas is a holiday!!! Just because we're no longer singling it out as the ONLY holiday doesn't mean we're excluding it! It falls VERY neatly under the umbrella of "HOLIDAYS". If they want to talk about a war on a holiday, let's look at the uproar that is raised about Halloween - the Wiccan New Year - EVERY STINKING YEAR. Three years ago there was actually a news piece on a local television station about a school in a predominantly Christian community that was celebrating "Harvest Day" on Halloween instead of Halloween because of all the "negativity" associated with Halloween. Translation - Halloween is the Devil's birthday and we don't want our children celebrating it. I also read a news article in my parent's local newspaper that explicitly stated Halloween was Satan's birthday and it was a Satanic holiday. My parents live in a rural community, so guess what the predominant faith in the area is? That's right, CHRISTIAN.
If they want to talk about persecution, they need to step off their soap box and live the life of anyone whose life doesn't follow the status quo. I'd like to know when the last time was that a Christian in this country was gang beaten for being a Christian.

If your friend's cousin was truly beaten that badly, then the people who did it to him were not Christians.
Oh, they may have called themselves that -- but don't believe everything people say, not even about themselves. Or ESPECIALLY about themselves.
And just because people are "cross wearers" doesn't mean they're Christian.
I see lots of people over here in Japan wearing crosses on necklaces -- even though only about 1 percent of the population is Christian.
You know, it sounds to me that your real problem is NOT your husband being threatened, or your friend's cousin being beaten.
It sounds like you're using these two isolated events to castigate an entire religion -- a religion that probably teaches things that you just don't want to hear.
Hence your need to discredit it, and to exploit your husband's and friend's cousin's plights in the process.

You are right. Dismissing false Christians won't fix this problem - because they weren't false Christians. They are like the man who is the leader of a racist group, yet never fails to go to Church and spread the news of God. I am sorry for what has happened to you and your family, and I do not know how to fix it. I am a Christian, and I have never claimed to be persecuted - I know better. People disagreeing with you is NOT persecution. It is simply people disagreeing with you. The only way I can tell you to fix this is to not let it affect how you treat other people. To spite those who have harmed you and your family, be better than they are. Be kinder, gentler, and far more loving. Show them that you don't have to be a Christian to be a better person.

There is no excuse for people being violent to one another, but thats man's inhumanity to man.
People hide behind religious icons to justify thier aims, it doesn't make it right. ALL religions are guilty of this.
People who do this are basically afraid, and are bullies. Thats why they run around in gangs... Hey and they certainly are not christians.

There is not anything worse than these ''holier than thou'' Christians who think that whatever they say or do is correct.
I do hope these people were arrested and sent to jail. The more we stand up to them, the more they may yell-but, they will be repaid for their actions.
People talk about Islam being bad. There are only a few who are. I do not see why the whole Christian population is not referred to as bad. But, like in Islam, there are only a few who are.
Too bad the media does not realize that hate crimes work both ways---------I bet this was not recorded as a hate crime.

Because any Christian who does this is not different than an Islamic extremist. There are many people out there who will twist religion to suit their purposes. The sad thing is that these people have absolutely no understanding of Jesus and what his teachings meant. I will use a quote of Jesus that explains it perfectly. "A tree will be judged by it's fruit, a good tree can not bring forth bad fruit just like a bad tree can not bring forth good fruit" People will be judged by their actions, it doesn't matter what they call themselves, bad is bad.
