(Great title for something). Most of you will be aware of how windy it is today (UK). I was being blown down the street (I usually walk) before and the trees and rooves were all OK until I came to the church. Slates and chunks of bricks had crashed down, potential hurting, or even killing people.
My questions is, what kind of a God would allow this? *

The Christian God doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

Well talking of church, I once got bitten by many bees, when I was right in front of a church (used to pray there occasionally) because some birds flapped their wings on a hive just as I approached. I have no explanations.

When there was a major cyclone in orissa (India), everything - and I mean 'everything', was destroyed, but each and EVERY temple in the state was so safe that even their flags were intact. Miracle or fantastic architecture, I just don't know!

You cannot blame God for the bad weather. The weather is a natural thing caused by a number of reasons.
In the case of the church being damaged by the wind, there was probably a weekness in the masonary which just gave out in the strenght of the wind!

1) the kind of God that designated specific laws of nature and created the universe to follow them

2) the kind of God that protects people because though there was potential, the slates didn't hurt anyone

3) the kind of God that wants you to use the brain he gave you and think about this question

4) the kind of God who desires to strengthen the community of that church to rebuild itself

5) the kind of God who allows evil a limited degree of reign on earth thus entitling us to free will

Pick any combination of the above or your own and you'll be well on your way to an excellent theodicy and while your at it look up some philosopher's responses and possibly consider the book of Job

The kind that doesn't spoil His children and keep them from all adversity and challenges.

My neighborhood had a micro-burst earlier this year (trees smashing garages and all that too). And the aftermath was a good thing, neighbors were out helping each other to chop the wood, and clean up - we bonded, and I'm glad for it.

For crying out loud- its a bit of wind!

What kind of God allows us our lives, enough food and water, shelter, the love of family and friends, the beauty of creation, our intellect etc. etc. when we simply throw it all back in his face and moan about a bit of wind!

Maybe we need a bit of wind to put us in our place! And if your question isn't a red herring as it seems to be, then rest assured that the God of the universe and of the wind will mete out justice when we die- this life and all its random suffering and pain isn't all there is.

Hey, you should have been around in the old days dude, he flooded the whole world, sent Plagues, turned people into Salt, Smotted (or Smited) unbelievers, and was generally a very jealous and vengeful God, now he lets us get on with the devestation ourselves.

Wind in the UK......

You guys haven't seen real wind. Try 120 kph winds of Hurricane Wilma in 2005, I lived on the south side of the eye wall and you couldn't take a step outside without getting knocked down and thrown up against the side of the building.

God does not "allow" this. God allows things "good and bad" to happen to test faith and to give meaning to life. God does not, not allow temptation, since we have free will. It is for us to decide. How certain are you those who died weren't meant to by God? How do you know they were in the book of life?

Don't blame God when bad things happen. His job is not to protect everyone, although when bad things happen to people God is the first one to blame. How do you know for sure, God didn't keep one of those trees you walked by from blowing over and killing you? You don't. how do you know he didn't stop the fire in your flat before it started? God doesn't give us more than we can handle. It is up to you to keep your faith during such times.

The bad wind is due to climate change which is anthropogenic ally cause,. Why do people try and blame everything on God, try turning off your lights maybe that will help.

the realistic non-existent kind. Even in your religion, God created Humans to look after the world, he's not going to interfere and save anything, he created the wind to do its job and if it destroys something man made thats just what happens.
