I know why I believe, but actually finding the words for it is not an easy task. I cannot place words to my beliefs.

I have a very good reason for believing.

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.

While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.

Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.

I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.

I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.

I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.

Your brother don

Generally, people who believe in God do not use logical reasoning to justify why. Faith is not set up that way. It the existence of God was proven tomorrow, there would be no reason to have faith. Faith is what religions are based on.

It's like how we say that science does not factor in creation anywhere, since it is not a testable hypothesis.

Same idea, but converse. Not applicable.

If we all KNEW there was a God, and we would "burn in hell" if we didn't believe, there would be no challenge or test for us, right?

Many people have had personal experiences that compel them to just "know". I have one, but it is too personal to share here only to possibly have it made into a mockery. It involved someone I loved very much who died. After that, I knew that what I believe is justified. And I am a logical, science minded person. I believe God AND science can run parallel. God goes beyond anything we are able to comprehend.

As a Christian and an amature scientiest (Astronomy) and see how organized the heavens is I can't help thinking these things could not happen without someone to set them into motion.

Like wise the human body, look how the white blood cells know what to do, how everything in our body serves a function (minus the appendex and one other part in the brain.) These things could not be created without something or someone Creating it. It does not make scenes. This is how I explain the reason I believe in the Almighty.

Belief in god is unreasonable - reasoning will not found a belief. It is a psychological decision, like a light switch.

If nobody believed in god, life would not change. Perhaps people's psyches would be different, but everything humans have accomplished was accomplished by >humans<

See, you need to stop using your brain. That is the way of theology. And when you are being compelled at the heart, you can make illogical decisions like discriminating, bigotry, and war.

Gotta love the warm, loving vibe though.

"When I let Him into my life, He proved Himself to me. A person who knows Him knows."
That sounds a bit like psychosis to me.

In one word Faith, Faith is not just an act of the mind, but it taps us into the very resources of God so that we have the power to live in an entirely new way.If God himseif is living within us, our lives should be dramatically changed.Faith is the only way to get to heaven. It is the only doorway to eternal life. If God created eternity, then only through God can we get there

If by reason, you mean the use of logic, I cannot answer your question. You see, God does not speak to your brain. He speaks to your heart. People who look for this thing called proof, do so with a logical mind. But God doesn't need to prove Himself to anyone. As the bibles says, they have eyes, but do not see; ears but do not hear.

I tried the logical route years ago. The bible was a difficult read. When I opened my heart, everything changed.

I believe in God because He has worked so much in my life. I feel His presence when i pray and all throughout the day. As a Christian it is hard for me to understand people not believing in God. God's love is something i feel in my heart.

I can't wait to see the other responses to this question to see how everybody else answers.

In the beginning we all fear God for the consequences of sin, but after we are Christians for a while we experience God's love. I experience His presence when I worship. I experience His guidance through the Bible. Having Him in my life for 49 years lets me know He is real.

Simple: Because Jesus Christ rose from the dead... and eleven of His Twelve Apostles went to rather grizzly deaths in diverse parts of the known world rather than say they didn't see Him Risen.

Most definitely faith... answers to prayer ... biblical testimony and truths proved over time... bible's longevity... all of which comes down to faith because if you've no faith, prayers are like talking to a wall...
