My son has just got engaged and I want to get him & his fiancee a present but as they have no house yet I am stuck for ideas! Help! The figure I had in mind was £160. Something permanent but not cash. Thank you

Maybe you can get them something engraved with their names and the date they got engaged.

If they are interested in having some fine china or silverware, you might start with giving them a place setting. I had received such a gift from my Grandfather when I was engaged and long after he has died, I still use the silver and think of him every time I use it. While other household things may come and go, silver and china are enduring.

How about a Trip to somewhere within limits....

They would love to travel at this moment of time...

But if you insist on something permanent at home, how about a Big Portrait for both of them....1 meter by 90 Cm.

It will be very nice to hang it on the wall...

My parents gave us a lot of kitchen stuff for our engagement. Things like pots and pans, bakeware, and silverware, even though neither of us yet live on our own. I am storing everything in my bedroom until we marry un August. It is a bit cramped now, but it's well worth it.

Get him an Emporio Armani AR-0239 watch with a leather band. Should be about 160.

That's a nice thought.

I'd say a day spa at one of the hotels.

It might be something they enjoy so much that they'll transform it into a regular thing.
